Yeah, nice looking board DJ, probably the best looking one of LSDs I have checked on here, I reckon it will feel insane after the bigger (and heavier) boards.

I agree with the comments about red thumbs, if ya don't agree with something ignore it or have your say - the forum would be better offwithout them IMO.

Thanks for the pic Jake.. .. I did buy some of those sheep skin lined Crocs the other day.. Ooooh.. they're sooo cumfee..

That solid all yellow was a bit much.. The new grey deck makes it look very different.. Maybe that hot pink colour would have looked good..

Off Topic, but regards thumbs: Folks love em & hate em. The concept is to provide input to "readers", as there are far more "readers" than "writers"

Consider a crowd of 8 people. Three mouths talking, the other 5 people will pull facial & body expressions in response to what's being said. Sometimes they can't get a word in because a loud mouth talks them down whenever they speak up.

I'm confident the thumbs are not abused by people with "hidden agendas" - there's a 24 hour limit on how many each poster can use, and businesses are exempt from voting other businesses.

Enjoy .. Lozza

p.s. Nice board .. amazing deck grip.

I went down to the west coast today to catch up with dean and catch a few waves.. Bells was my first stop and it was looking good,

I was about to rush out there and then realized there's a comp on.. Some Billabong event... Bugger!

So we went down the coast and found this great spot with beautiful little waves coming through and no crowds... and I took a few pictures of my board before I left.

Yeah.. yeah.. Greenie... You'll just have to wait longer for those pics now..

The board surfed great.. I must have caught at least twenty waves and I'm just starting to get the feel for a short board that goes where you want it to.

You should hide in the back of Scotty's van and come on over for the Mambo..

Thats one big arse fin , would the board be way to loose with a smaller one?

Dale I have no gip on the nose area yet and on some waves I had my feet on the front edge of the grip and happy to not go any further forward.. If the MonsterPaint doesn't come through I'll use some other stuff called SureGrip or something like that you can buy from Bunnings.

Yeah an 11" fin in a 9' board is a bit odd if you look at what everyone else is doing.. but IMO it works well for a number of reasons.

The larger area and the deeper fin makes the board much more stable than if it was to have smaller fins.. kinda like a windsurfers daggerboard.

The larger fin makes the board paddle much straighter than if it had smaller fins.. There is very little yawing and I find that very anoying with some other short boards that I've paddled.. especially paddling for a wave.

The board is very loose due to the curvy boards outline and rocker so why would I want to make it looser by putting smaller fins in it.

The larger fin gives really good drive on turns and being deeper lessens the chance of the fin breaking free when tipped right over.. so again smaller fins would not work without adding side fins.

I'm sure that nose riding is also improved by having a larger fin but i'm no expert there.

I caught the first wave that I paddled for and had a nice long ride alowing me to move around the board and feel how it turns.. There was no slidy feeling in the turns... I caught some waves with late take offs that I was sure I'd wipe out on and was very surprised that it did not want to pearl.. Maybe it's the concave under the nose and the soft rails but it sure seems to be working well.. The full rails and extra width along with the bigger fin all adds up to a very stable board that paddles out over whitewater well and waiting out the back for a wave is a piece of cake.. even with some chop.

It's still early days for me on this board.. I'm no real surfer so it may take me a while to really get the most out of this board.. It may not be everyones cup-a-tea but I think Dean is really on to something with this design.

I hope to get some GoPro footage soon so you guys can check out how the board goes.. and how bad I surf.

Well the proof is in the pudding and from what i have seen his boards go pretty good.

I like surfing with a bigger fin.

Do you think your Mana 10' will get much use now that you have your Snow?

I can understand the effect of a bigger fin on paddling and surfing. Do you think it makes a lot of difference in tippyness or stability when waiting for waves?

Hi Greg,
The deeper the fin the more roll dampening it will produce. If you have multiple short fins, the total surface area may be close to a large single, but it's not the area, it's the depth of a center fin from the bottom at the centerline.
A boards roll axis is its center line, rail located fins are tending to move up & down verticaly & any small fin on the centerline will be all that is tending to dampen the roll.
So the large single fin slows the roll rate to a point where the brain is happier dealing with the input/output....or ballance, it just makes riding the minimal boards a tad easer
Try it... if you have a narrow twitchy board with small fins, wack in the biggest mother ****** you can find....its very noticable.

I'll call her tomorrow and check for sure.. I think she was going to give it to me at the Mambo (in a few weeks time).

DJ, any news on the Monster Grip? I keep trying to get up on the nose of the PSH.............It ain't pretty when the front foot slips off the nose. For some reason the board seems to have a homing device which attracts it towards "me bits".

Thanks for letting me know.

If it hasnt arrived yet, I am thinking about just putting some non-skid spray (intended for boat use) on the nose.

Sam in Sydney has a can of Monster Grip for me and she was not sure if she could sent it to me in the mail and will give it to me at the Mambo.

So I should have it in a few days.. (fingers crossed)..

I'm note sure how far one can will go but if there's enough you're welcome to use some for your board.

You would think that someone down under would become a distributer for the stuff.. I know they are looking for someone to sell it here.

Hey LSD,

Thanks for that info (above), Just wondering how that big fin wil affect the board when on a wave? Will it pull the tail down and slow up the board? My knowledge on fins is virtually zero

Cheers Kagey
