Notice that everybody with a really short SUP is always letting you know how short his board really is?

Reminds me of the guy who scoffed at my 10' x 34" whopper and then got no waves cos it was a bit choppy and the waves were a bit fat. Oh, and we had to rescue him when he got caught inside and his leggy wrapped around a rock.

Now thats funny

Im 70kgs and ride a 9'8

That's not funny at all (well not to me anyways)
and I didn't scoff, I was jealous.

Kn choppy offshore reef, I couldn't resist the fast left that ended up dredging onto the shallow lumpy reef when I shoulda been taking the fat right into the channel.
Thanks for your help Ericson, that was a crazy day and a bizarre circumstance i found myself in.

Haha, no worries tightlines! I was trying to be funny without saying enough for you to know I meant you! Failed. We both know the truth is I spent a lot of that session in the water because standing up out the back was nigh on impossible that day even on the Whopper.

There were some nice lefts that day though, eh? Usually with the crowd of shorties there I leave the lefts and hang wide for the fat rights but that day got some nice, long, wally lefts. Hope we get some uncrowded days there this summer.

Truth is I'm just jealous cos I saw you post some pics of Fiji or something and I'm sitting on my arse getting too fat for even my boat of a board. But you did hurt my feelings when you said "I'm thinking of getting a wider board... but not THAT wide". Just kidding. Catch you out there soon I hope mate.

Totally agree with the first post, although sometimes you do ask size of board if the person is on a new model (especially Naish riders it would seem).

A mate and I both bought 11'3" from WSnS in a package deal, then I dropped down to a 9'6" hokua. Mate decides that he has to go smaller so buys a 9'3" hokua. I then want to go smaller and get the 9' hokua. 2 months later mate, with a big smile on his face, pulls out the 8'10" from his board bag.

No chance I am going smaller so he certainly feels he won!

There is defo a "size thing" with SUPing, I have been intro'd to friends friends as being a 9' SUP rider!

Now I think of it, it's all a bit ridiculous.

being introduced as a 9 foot sup rider, oh the shame. worse than be intro-ed as mal rider.

really its all about the right board for the right person in the right conditions.

this my board is smaller than yours is two years ago old hat

waste of time have a short sup out today in small fat waves
cheers

Lacey now come on buddy, when are you going to lose the paddle stick!

On board lengths,Longboards can be the same length say 9.1 but one
can be HP and the other a log.
Question,is this the case for sup boards?

My main reason is my 9 foot Coreban Fusion fits in the commode wagon - I can leave it in the car and have a surf on the way home and hopefully get home after cactus hour.

Goin smaller would mean the kids wouldnt have sit bent over double on the way to school

I heard the new Hull Rippers will surf like a board of much shorter length and volume for its size,
but then a thicker board thats short can paddle as fast as a longer thinner board maybe,
you need a size of board rating system based on pride/shame BleueBill.
