It's looking very good for good down-winder this Sunday (5th) with 20-30 knots north wind forcast.

Can't wait.. .. 9.30-10am meet at Sandy for a 10.30 sharp start at St Kda.. Who's in? Newbies welcome.

PFDs for newbies. Actually, we ALL wear PFDs on downwinders, don't we?

Stu, don't take this the wrong way, but would you mind staying out of the effing country for a few weeks?

I was thinking maybe he leaves a key under a rock. If not, we can just use the rock.

Hate to be the bad news bear again ( see the mad mad paddle) but be warned there is an olympic distance triathlon at Sandringham this Sunday so it will be hard to get in and out of the place. Just had a quick sqizz at the map and the bike course goes from South Road to past Ricketts point (see supersprint.com.au ) so not sure about Greens Point or maybe Mentone. Again apologies from myself and Jono, we are both hanging to try downwinding but Jono has to do these for school.

Thanks for letting us know.. So Green Point it is.

Those keen enough might want to do two runs if the conditions stay good.

There's also the St.Kilda Pride March on from 1 to 4 with more road closures.

What about a St.Kilda to HMB.

They let you cross Beach Rd to access HMB if you come down Bayview Cres.

I think that Pride thing is in the afternoon if I read the street signs correctly. So another reason to get started early-ish.

Perhaps you can lassoo a couple of triathlonners to get a bit more speed. Use a whip. They like that sort of thing.

I'm looking at Forecast Explorer on the BoM site just now (5:45pm) and it's currently looking like 11:00am onwards is the time. Wind is looking to be pretty straight northerly 25 - 30 knots(a little bit of west in it would be good, but doesn't look likely). It is forecasting it to go west at some time between 2 - 5pm

If people want to consider it, you could park at my place which is pretty much across the road from Ricketts, at say, 10'ish and then go to St Kilda or Point Ormond (avoiding beach road up to Sandy) and head back down to Ricketts. By the time we get back the road closures here would be over.

Sounds like a crew doing the afternoon instead. Peak wind of 25-30 knots and swinging more advantageously to NNW around 2pm with the change holding off until well after 5pm. So maybe meet 1.30 at Ricketts?

North winds are always at their best before midday no matter what the forecast says.... imo.

I think Green Point [the end of South Rd] at 10am is going to be best.. It's our rest stop spot so if it's really good and some want to continue to Rickets we will work something out.. so see you at Green Pt at 10am.

So at this stage we have two runs planed.. One run ( a short run ) meeting at Green Point at 10am for a 10.30 start at St Kilda.. and another run ( a long run ) meeting at Rickets at 1.30pm for a 2.00 start at St Kilda.. ( if the wind is stll there.. and has not turned SW ).

I'll be doing both if it's all happening..

Depending on these street closures for the Pride march, the second run could start at Point Ormond to avoid that whole scene. Though according to Stu, there's a whole other, not entirely unrelated scene happening there.

I heard the people around St Kilda today are all smiling, laughing, happy and GAY.. and a place to keep your back to the wall today.. There's some kind of festival on..

If you drive up the HWY and turn left at Inkerman.. Cross Fitzroy St and go down to Langridge St and turn left.. Go up to beach Rd (that's where we park to start our DWers).

Hope you are all safe and well and have sore calf muscles from prolonged surfing stance. It has been honking out there for the last few hours, I think any "newbies" will have well and truly got their PFD's wet. Challenging to get the board onto the car afterwards!

The 1.30 group was a blast!!

Had gusts between 35-45 knots, some huge runners.

Two newbies, Tom and Marcus, both on Naish 14's just absolutely nailed it.

Marcus has only paddled 3 times before today. Look out Connor!!

My Fanatic 12'6" handled the conditions beautifully.

My first beer is tasting very good.

It was a really good run today. Ask DJ about the footage he got.

Just checked the wind graphs...we got hit by some real bullets in the gusts as we went past Sandy yacht club. There was at least one gust that just blew me onto a runner..they must have been the ones that were over 50 knots!
