fatsurf, mate it was great to meet you and your little girl today! Seabreeze helps like minded people meet each other!
Mate you did well for your first time in lumpy conditions!
The great thing about SUP IMHO is people don't mind others having a go on their boards. I met a guy called Tate a couple of months ago and tryed his 9.6 without any luck,I bumped into him today and he offered me another go,thanks Tate loved it,a little ,well a lot tippy in the chop! But at least I could paddle it unlike my first attemped! As I was packing up another guy aproached asking questions, within 5 mins he is paddling my board!
SUP,s its a must have toy!
Look out two more SUP'ers coming soon!

Hi Fatsurf

There are a few basic paddles out there that will do the job while you are starting up. When you are having a lend of someones check out the pitch on the blade. They can start out pretty straight up and down or out as far as a 16 degree pitch on some. I prefer one about an 8 degree pitch. Try a Kia Kaha paddle, I found it fantastic.
Here is a link or two to look at them. I have seen a variance in prices up and down around.

I think Woogie makes the Kia Kaha paddle and would be worth a call.

Drewsta's 11'6" would be perfect for you or a 11'6" Southpoint. Save the dollars on the windsurf and put them towards one of these. They handle the surf well as well. Persist with them and the stablity comes and the fun grows.

Mac - mate no worries at all - anytime, and yeh it wasn't the best conditions there today with that tide ripping in but still, least you had more of a feel for it this time.

and to fatsurf...i'd say do what you have to to get some good gear asap, trying to hack around on make shift gear will be frustrating and you'll progress faster and be happier on at least some quality 2nd hand gear if you can't get new.

Do whatever it takes but if your sure sup is for you then sounds like it's time for an early B'day pressie to yourself

Hmmm, not sure what the top board is, could be a TC Runner or something, post a pick of the deck.

But the board you got for your daughter is a Bombora tri fin... all Aussie made and designed by an old mate Mark Paul. That was the ducks guts in windsurfing short boards back in the mid 80's. I surprised there are still any around.

I'm sure they will get you on the water, but not sure how easy they will be to ride.

Gotta be honest, goddam sail boards look crap for sup... sure for a little kid that will be ok, but for an adult windsurfers look soooo opposite to what a good sub should look like. Have not seen a good windsurf board yet thats converted to a decent sub. Do yourself a favour and forget the windsurf stuff and get yourself a decent sub

Great Idea Fatsurf

You will definitely like your SUP board when you get one but these will bring great memories for you and your daughter. It is all about getting wet and having fun and for $35 bucks you can't beat that. Your daughter will love the time on it.

I like your theory. On a lake is the perfect place to do this. Get good with the balance and then start heading out into some choppier water. By the time you get your upgrade your gonna rip
