filling a void???? the state events are not getting enough punters in the normal catagories to justify opening more.....SUP'rs have to get serious about their own sport before organisers will

all for anyone wanting to get more events going BUT do not call them the Aus tittles. We have non profit organisations that provide these events for us. give it time to grow. and as far as I believe they do not have any hidden agendas.

Thats good to hear.....Somethings to remember though: The sport is young, The sport is not as big as seabreeze would have it seem, and it takes time effort and money to put these things on...sometimes with alot of hastle. For it to be worth while there needs to be the people showing up consistantly...thats whats missing in my mind. It is definitly getting better and will continue to do so as more people come into it, but having multipule organisations spreading an already thin field even thinner is not really in the sports best interest. Alot of clubs are forming and doing their part, they inturn are trying to fit in with state and Surfing Aus guide lines so it all flows to a critical point.

for all the frustration of the punters, It really is up to them.

Maybe its time to get the state bodies, and the other "bodies" together and thrash a big national calander of major events - or have a seabreeze "live calendar" with whats on rather than just a text version of stat by state events. Other associations do it - with mixed results.

The question is who is the SUP overarching body?

With a live calendar (like your outlook calender or even on a blog page) crew could do some planning and set their training to "peak" for the right event (see the Jess Jarver SASI training guide - was my triathlon training bible)

Nsw state titles was a full house!!!!

So was the original Vic Titles back in late January, never seen so many Stand Ups in the one place at the one time. Infrastructure was laid on, spectators all over it and an allround good vibe cos it was a SUP only event. Problem was the surf was deemed unacceptable which in hindsight and given the Nationals experience, it certainly was not. It all goes pear shaped when we are run as an add on, second round of Viccos with the longboarders and Nationals with the shortboarders. Bottom line is they just dont want us and rightly or wrongly see us as a side show to the main event. Given the comparitive numbers involved thats understandable.
Having said that I believe Surfing Australia has our best interest at heart, its just going to take time to shake out the bugs. As far as two Aussie Titles go I'll reserve judgement until I see how this other mob operates. All for a gathering of the tribe and a solid social event to wind it up, we're not playing for sheep stations, just playing in the ocean.
Cheers
Sparx

To answer a few questions supa is working with Sup Central (central coast club) comittee to run the NSW titles. They are asking and taking on board input from us on how to run this event and move forward with the sport.
I haven't heard from any local clubs that Surfing australia had this same approach proir to running the state titles.
Its my opinion like surfing the grass roots starts with the local club format.
I cant see any hidden agenda other than the progression of the sport under one governing body. No one else has put there hand up to take control.
This will not happen with Surfing Australia as I can't see them taking on board the racing side of the sport.

Re the bolded part - so far as I'm aware, Surfing Australia doesn't take a hands on role with the state titles but leaves that to their affiliated state bodies. Surfing Victoria ran the Vic Titles this year and will do so again next year in collaboration with the two Vic SUP clubs.

It's good that SUPA is working with one club in NSW to run their version of state titles. But they don't appear to have approached either of the Vic clubs for an event that already has a date on the calendar, which is rather curious. I wonder who is running that event if neither club is involved.

Agree, Surfing Vic have made the Vic titles this summer a weekend event and will include both surf and race.
The 2 main vic clubs are working closely with Surfing Vic to put the event together. What more can Surfing Vic do?
SUPA have posted dates for their version of the Vic titles (over 2 weekends) but have not contacted anyone down here.
