There's nothing wrong with it either as long as some one is making good shapes and QC is kept tight and they don't cut corners I'd be happy with it. Just don't let them design them over there.

what like naish..?

?? who are you do you even SUP or just another troll guy who's to scared to put there real name to there posts.

There is pro & cons on import v the local , a bit over a year ago when I first started supping it was easy to buy the import because you got to test the various sizes.I started on a 10-3 Gerry Lopez by Ron house (sold that) then I dropped to the RH 9-10 (which I still have) then to a PSH 9-2 (sold that) then I dropped to a RH 9-1 (sold that) then I got a RH 8-8 (still have) bit small but it rips.It took a year to work out what I needed and now my main board is a Dale Chapman 8-11 based of the RH 8-8.

I consider Dales sub 9-0 boards the best in the market and at $1,800 with grip I can't see why you would buy an import other than it's nice to try demo boards and buy exactly what you tested, but the better you get the more you want out of your board , so for me NOW a custom is the only way to go BUT in the next few months you will see alot of great value package deals from the production guys which will make them hard to beat.

A production board is made for everyone but a custom is made for you , just my 2 cents worth. The production boards have there place in the market as they make it easy to try and buy and they do suit alot of people , especially when you start out.

This is a couple shots of Nathan Meyer last weekend at Broom Head I think these shots
says it all about a custom board and just to keep it fair there there is one of Dogman ripping it up on a Naish 9-3.

These shots were taken by Tankman my head photographer for Vonpiros.com on a Cannon 5DM2 100-400 L series lens with a shutter speed of 1000 (for the camera buffs)

Piros

I love it Piros its great to have passion about it and if you belive they are the best and like riding them then happy days. The good thing with this fourm is everyone can have there opinion and some times thing work for some that don't work for others.

It a big call though saying they are the best as there are a lot of good boards around. I myself have tried a few i didn't like the DC8'10 but did like the Magic carpet 8ft and also quite liked Jake's home made board i think it rode better than nearly all the others. But for me it's hard to beat the Naish 8'10 and 8'0 for performance even Lacey can't argue with that and at $1699 including grip good fins and a very good board bag its hard to beat. And with guys like Lumners now on the 8'10 it can't be to bad..

Hey Piros is Nathan going in the Roar comp? be good to catch up with him. I might even get trev to enter if there are any spots left.

Piros - just out of curiousity what aussie made boards (customs) have you surfed in order to say that the DCs are the best.(in your opinion)

You should get into politics Bill as the opposition leader . A wise man once told me.
Never be a pioneer ( they always get shot )

dc and rod are the only two major custom players around that i know of that are making sub 9 ft shortboard performance.laguna bay have started there shortboard shapes with the goatman's newie. lsd is looking at stepping up who else is there ?

Re boardbumps if you look in the background of the first shot , the guy with the white that is Rod Hocking (Board Bumps) he's been crook plus he has worn out his right shoulder from years of shaping so he has been laying low.

Just one more thing on the customs even if every local guy was flat out they would be lucky to be able to supply 50% of the demand so there will always be a need for imports.

Jacko I'll take to Nath and let him know about the comp.

Dogman was wondering where the kids left my camp stove heard about the fire the next day , that gaint shark that faded me was probably remote controlled by shortboarders to keep the sweepers out of Broom.

Hey Lacey, I'm not convinced that a performance sub 9ft has to be short board shape? Pretty sure some of the fuller nose boards like Laguna could be classed as performance? I guess it kinda depends on the type of waves you're riding.

Paul is that right-Matt Lumley is off PSH and now riding Naish?

Gotta' say really like the look of the 810 and 800 Naish boards-been seeing JB around Palmy killing it on one.

I agree Cam, my board although it was my first shape, goes pretty good and I
deliberately gave it a shortboard like tail (back 3ft- outline and bottom shape) with a
fuller nose. It is really loose but is still very stable and nose rides great.

I love the naish 8'10 and 9'0, and there pop outs as well. . I think some one else said some thing, just ride what you like. The best board is the board you like not your mates. I always have been a hand shape kid all my life with my longgboarding and never really tried it, but know i have two that is going amazing and the best part i can go any were and get the same board.

That is the best thing about pop-outs-the consistency in performance-you get to demo and then know that when you lay out the big bucks-the board you buy will perform just like the demo.

I've had literally hundreds of custom surf boards and it's pretty much always hit and miss (even with top shapers)-there's just so many variables, all the way through the production process, that can change the performance of a custom board.

As much as it kills me to say it but LSD is right in some ways. Cos I think there are some great production boards out there BUT for the smallish waves I generally ride, is the naish 8'10" at 9kg too heavy? It obviously does not matter in power conditions but I cant see my 7.8 kg poorly shaped 8'3" custom feeling worse than a 9kg prod? i had atleast a half a dozen rides on a starboard pocket rocket which is great on small waves but lacks drive and power. Naish shape looks drivey and loose but 9kg just kills it for me.....

Hey scotty, im at 90kgs. with out a wetsuit. I havnt had a problem on the boards even with the chop. There is another way to think of weight, at 9kg the board keeps momentum and holds drive. And fighting a stiff off shore it allows you to drive through it.

Well Id love to talk more about Simon A and his new board range but no one has photos and no one who has posted has ridden one yet. We can only bull sh_t talk about whateva is the latest and to me, from a unbias non sponsered or buisness point of view, the hottest shapes going around are the new naish, laguna and laguna new rippers and those custom psh wood numbers. Sorry boys but I have not seen a dc thats pumped me yet. LSD is on to it with the weight thing but needs to add more fins and take a few inches out of the width. IMO

yeah, i'm just going on my type of boards. i haven't had much luck with fuller noses. i had a go on casso's board, he is up on holidays. that board is a step up from anything i've surfed. it is effortless and going from rail to rail, there is no stalling. no sup ive been on does that. i would be happy if my shortboards did that. just watched my one going through the machine. can't wait, amping to surf it
cheers

stoked the wind has turned to the south and is blowing the fire away from us towards and heading to angourie/yamba they can have it

i hear they are working on a new remote control shark proto type with rack mounted belt feed 50 cal machine guns and rapid fire howitzer comissioned from the US military in return for letting them dock nuclear submarines to get cheap donuts and diet coke from the snak shack

scotty

do you want those toasted marshmellows melted over a nice over ripe naish banana to be sent in the mail asap

allrounder

yo dude nice pic

just even more off topic

i was wondering how the 8'5? wood board you were getting from AA went or is it still lost in a sydney opium den near balmoral

cant wait to see you going nuts up at the goldie on your new arsenal of toys

hangin to sus out the 9'0 round nose machine before you turn it into sponge bob NO.2

yer me old highschool buddy nathan meyer is rippin it up on his new DC stick thats for sure as were all the crew that were riding them on the day of those pics were taken by TANK at broom shed

rod hocker was riding his new 7'10 disco biscuit and giving it a real good workout

i think nathan was saying he was headed to "1770" or somewhere like that around the time of the roar comp

its was great to have a paddle with a few crew all smiling and a great vibe in the water and not one hassle other than trying to run each other over

lookielookie

does luke short live at yamba or stay there sometimes?

not many crew get into sup there but it is slowly growing one guy how bought my old 12' glide just bought a 14'glide as well and has promised me a hit on it soon

yer i got told the same thing from a heap of different local crew

i think batty and the boys blew up at woody and kerrin out there one day

reason i got was cause its a tight take off area and they dont want big boards out there killing everyone and if you let one in they will all come

might have to call in the lukes shed for a little sneak peak at whats happening

i play in a band at yamba every fortnight on a thursday and do classes there on each sunday arvo

Epoxy.

These are not quality shots of the finished off boards-these were taken by the factory manager-so not taken to show the boards in best light.

These have been in the pipe for a while-so not necessarily the ones you saw being worked on.
