Agree with everyone saying go Virgin for domestic.

Just flew Gold Coast to Sydney with my 8'10" on Virgin yesterday and had no troubles. When I was checking my board in, I thought I would ask about whats the maximum size board they will accept. The girls at the counter said they didn't have a size limit.

I figured she probably didn't realise how big SUP's can get so I asked more specifically about taking a 14ft or 17ft board. She wasn't sure so she rang through to the baggage department/handlers to check and they said it was ok to take any board, even up to 17ft!!! So the only thing you really need to worry about is the weight limit of 23kg for all your checked baggage.

This airline, Cebu Pacific

carries SUP's if you are going to the Flipperpines. You just have to pay for extra weight to the free allowance of 15kg checked baggage. Pay when you buy your ticket and get a 20% discount. Saw a couple of Jimmy Lewis' being unloaded as I left the island after a prone surfing trip. The aircraft is a AF47 so I don't understand ****star not carrying long boards in the A320's.

This is our 2 x 12' SUPS that the baggage handlers for Singapore Airlines threw onto the roof of the baggage cart (they were too long to fit inside).
The cart was full of all the shortboards for our flight to the Maldives.
We were holding our breath just watching them hoik the boards up there, coz it was only luck that stopped them from sliding off the other side.
Imagine the damage to the rails if they fell from that height?
Thats why the recommendation is:
Put serious thought into how best to protect the rails, nose and tail.
