With most of our down-winders in the past being mid week a lot of the 9 to 5 crew have been missing out..

Well it's looking good for this Saturday.. (10th of July).. Let's hope we get a big group for this one..

We'll plan to meet at Sandy at 9.30 for a St Kilda start at 10am.

DJ

Forecast for Saturday

Winds: North to northeasterly 15 to 25 knots tending northerly up to 30 knots during the morning.
Seas: 0.5 to 1.5 metres increasing to 2 to 2.5 metres during the morning.

I'll be there too, looks like the forecast predicts the later the better on the day, but not sure how this goes with your work commitments on the day DJ ,maybe a couple of runs could be done anyway,
wonder if that 15ft canoe thingy will chase me the whole way again.

The winds haven't been performing completely as forecast lately.

However, they usually get the stronger winds correct !

--------
Forecast for Saturday
Winds: Northeasterly 20 to 30 knots tending north to northeasterly 25 to 35 knots during the morning then tending north to northwesterly 30 to 40 knots around midday. Seas: Up to 3 metres increasing to 4 metres during the morning. Swell: Westerly 0.5 to 2 metres. Swell: Easterly 0.5 metres.
--------

So, later in the day looks like the Melbourne option.

However, I'm out, Dad's coming down from the Gold Coast, and we're off to the footy, Cats V Hawks for continuous unfinished business between the two !! (We're Cats supporters!).

I'll be up for this one. It's looking epic.

Winds: North to northeasterly 15 to 20 knots tending northerly 20 to 30 knots around dawn then increasing to 30 to 40 knots during the late morning or early afternoon. Seas: 1 to 2 metres increasing to 2 to 3 metres around midday.

What's the best fin for the 14' Glide in these conditions?

I've got a spare Naish fin from my 11'6".

Alan the standard 14' Glide fin is probably the best fin for the board.

I just changed mine because I didn't like the sound that it make when it drags through the sand in shallow water.

Tomorrow is looking like a ripper.. .. Alan..you're gunna love that new board.

No white caps on the water via the StKilda web cam yet but the current looks strong. The arvo run should be a pearler.

It was a bloody ripper DW'er today..

The early run was a bit of a bummer with strong gusts blowing dead off-shore (east-noreast) at times and we all got blown way off corse and had to paddle forever right side only to get back on corse.. Except Cam who used his rudder on his 17.. The bugger..

The second run was all time with good runners as soon as we came under the pier.. The wind continued to kick with gust well into the 40 knot range.. Lots of long glides.. and the odd falls resulting in ice-cream headaches..

Carrying our boards out of the water at the end was the hardest part (it felt like 50 knots) and getting back to the cars I see Cam standing with one foot on his board to stop it getting blow away..

I took some vid with my helmet cam but haven't checked to see how it turned out.. I'm feeling pretty buggered... in a good way..

1st run we had DJ,JC , Mike K ,Al, Pete and myself,

2nd run DJ ,JC ,Dave H, and me,
was going to be Oliver too but he pulled the pin when he saw us struggling past Green Point on the first run but like DJ said the wind strengthened from the north and was all time run,

Thanks Cam, sounds like a great day. Did you beat the red canoe?

I'm 5 weeks out of the water now and may have to stay dry for another 3 weeks. I haven't been able to convince my physio of the recuperative powers of salt water. But I think I'm wearing her down.

3 weeks isn't to long away, just think of the cold weather your missing out on,
cheers.

Good fun today even if the wind wasn't always perfect direction. I guess it's the cold water and weather but I think you use a heap of energy doing a double in winter - starving when I got home!

Great that we are getting a team of regulars going, makes it so much more fun.

Tuesday morning is looking good for the 10am express if anyone can make it, N to NW 30 knots.

I ended up going out with Pete at around 3:30pm. I was about to settle in front of the TV when I got the call. Really glad I went out, conditions then were close to perfect - it was howling straight north. We were planning St Kilda to Beauie but the light failed us and we turned in at Black Rock. Glad I got amongst it and thanks Pete for accommodating me and doing the car swap thing.

Good one Oliver.. I was thinking about you on our second run and thinking it's a shame that you missed it.. Glad you hooked up with Pete.

I checked my vid from today and was very disappointed.. I got some average footage from the first run that was pretty lame compared to the second run but the batteries in my GoPro gave up on the second run.. Bummer.

I put what vid that I had into a little Vimeo clip and I should be able to post it here soon.
