TassieSUP "Winter" Classic 2020
The Winter Classic kicked off with free surf Friday, Dave & Hamish scored a shed full of empty clean head high pre comp waves at Roaring Beach. Saturday wasn't looking quite so good with not even a ripple at Pirates Bay, so the call was made to move the surfing to the home of SUP/The SUPer Bank/Carlton River as it was looking like the only option for any sort of contestable wave. Entrants were greeted with an ordinary waist high wave, but the as the day went on the and the heats were surfed it grew to a clean chest high wave with rides over 150m in length giving SUPers plenty of opportunity to impress the judges. It was very hard to seperate the scores with some very close surfing and everyone getting plenty of waves with it coming down to the wire with many split decisions deciding the winners.
James Davies took the triple crown taking out the Open, 0/40 & 10' divisions.
Sunday saw Mick Hawes take out the tech race at pirates bay, with the marathon canceled due to adverse conditions.
Big thanks to the beach crew and also Lufra Hotel & Appartments for their hospitality.

SUNDAY 27/09 Flatwater Paddle
Soft Downwinder this Sunday
5 Mile Beach to Dodges Ferry, forecast 20kmh Westerly, start 11.00 at 5 Mile beach rec area, if you need to car shuffle meet at Dodges Ferry School and be ready to leave at 10.30.
Bring a wing if you have one, but too shallow for foils.
A small, but keen crew turned up for Sunday's 1st paddle of the season with many been put off by the snowy conditions. After a miss calculation of the tide meant needing to walk 1/2 way to Midway Point before we found some deep water and then headed off on a very sunny 9k paddle with some wind assistance and only the last 1k requiring any real effort and forcing Mick & Geoff into the walk of shame. Tony elected to "wing it" and looked like using the oyster racks as a slalom course, but somehow managed to stay out of trouble this time. Next flatwater paddle October 25 + maybe a bonus paddle before then.

Summer Surf Series
R1 kicked off today at Little Canada in some of the best conditions seen at a Summer Series. Newcomers Dave B & Hamish R showed the old guard a thing or 2 and pushed each other all the way, but at the end of the day there was very little to separate the surfers with several tied scores. Big thanks to judges, Roz our photographer and our new series sponsor SMIK.

SMIK Summer Surf Series
R2 ran once again at Little Canada with plenty of overhead closeouts on offer to test the endurance of the crew, but there were also a few diamonds for those lucky enough to be in the right place at the right time. The SUPers that stayed on for a free surf after it was all over managed to get the best of the waves as the tide dropped, but too late to add to their scores. Big thanks to SMIK the series sponsor and judges, especially Chris W.
R3 will run on 14/2 and 31/1 is our next flatwater paddle.

Sumer Surf Series R3
The SUPer Bank turned on some waist waves this morning and the big crew that turned up didn't waist anytime tearing them apart. Matt, Geoff and Dave all with new boards seemed to have the edge over the others and it showed in results at the end of the day. Big thanks to our sponsors SMIK, Australian SUP Life, judges and Roz for the pics. Don't miss R4 March 14 as everyone will take home some merch and will be in the running to take out the series.
