Go to Lomobk...hahahaha...nah you can get really good uncrowded waves back away from Kuta...if there is no swell head for Nusa Dua....hit Ulu's and that early to avoid the rush....look around there are good spots with minimal crowds all over

Depends which side of the Island your based WINDY?
If you get a chance head over to Nusa Lembongan
20mins on the fast boat or 90mins on a outrigger fishing
boat, from Sanur, Its less crowded and you will find breaks such as
Ship Wreaks,Lacerations both world class IMO! we stayed
at COCO's perfect view over both breaks!
If your staying around Kuta head to Canggu,Ulu's,Playgrounds!
We stay at Kartika Plaza, boats 2min walk to Kuta/Airport reefs!
Hire a driver for the day,he will take you anywhere stop wait all
day for around 180,000 rupiah! This may take a little bartering[}:)]
Don't eat from street carts don't drink water aviod ice as well
Do drink heaps of BINTANG,Do eat at Koris and PoppiesDo shop
till you dropIf you like monkey's go to the forest go to Ubud!
Windy there is so much to see and do,sorry but 10 day's your not
going to fit it all inI believe you need at least 14 day's!
If you need any more info let me know, been going over every year
for years

been goin' for years and you pay that much...?

canggu is awesome for sup, old mans across from canggu is a wicked sup peak, all along that beach there great sup peaks. there's a bit of a sup crew at canggu and they're friendly enough. you can leave your board at the shop at canggu overnight if you want to, its safe enough.

but please do eat from the street carts and bike vendors, best and cheapest food you'll ever get, just sus out which ones the locals hit and follow suit. if you get sick, plain boiled rice and coca cola will see you straight. bintang beer is full of formaldehyde.

medewi, now thats a wave i'd love to sup.
balian would be worthy of a sup too.

as for ulu's and sup, i'm sure you could hit the peak or racetracks at hightide, but i'd love to come and watch you get your sup down the stairs into the cave.

Went there August last year and its a good time of year for the waves and weather.
Get yourself a copy of 'Indo Surf and Lingo'.Just google it they have their own
web site or most surf shops sell it.Lots of info in it you'll need.
Agree with the Doctor Ulu's would be sketchy in and out of the water on a Sup,but
well worth a visit its an awesome place.
Cheers,
Camo.

WINDY,I was talking from a pure longboarding point of view, sorry I have never SUP'd in Bali,Ulu's from entry to exit to stairs forget it! But a must do visit!Your family can view the lineup from BLUE POINT pool,it will cost you a couple of bucks to swim and they give one soft drink in the fee!
Because most of Bali has a reef around it,you can flat water paddle at high tide along most beachs!Otherwise the reef is exposed!Keep in mind their waves pack way more punch than ours at low tide, super FAST and STEEP! btw they don't get to many small day's,chest high is a small day
Be careful of where you eatTip, much cheaper to eat outside your resort

Your going to have a ball ENJOY

Mac or Doc,

I'm looking at heading over but want to take my SUP. I sussed this with the airline and it's cool but would the taxi's be able to get me around once I get there??

I'm thinking I'd hang around Canggu area.

Cheers

Hey Bnaccas, mate don't worry about carting your board around over there!
Last year our van driver didn't show up at the airport to pick us upWife two teenage girls 17/19 my son 15 and I ,three longboards three shortboards five suitcases plus carry on bags,oh and the duty free! I could have taken another van but cracked a sweet deal with two taxi's all good! They took the signs off the roof ,tied the boards on the roof with rope, they are pros at this! All the transport guy's drive seven seater vans, once again they tie the boards on the roof!I used to take my staps but don't bother anymore, when you cut the deal with the driver for the next day, tell him to have the rope at hand,if your happy with the driver, you pretty much stick with him the entire trip

Canggu's about a 45min drive from Kuta, depending on trafficNothing doing there at night, dead as in ,dead dark

Hey Brendan,
the balinese will do anything to get your board in the taxi,it wont be a problem as alot of the taxi's are minivans or called Bemo's over there. You could also take a set of those soft rack tie downs over there with you.By the end of it you'll probably be jumping on the back of some kids motorbike with the board under one arm and the paddle in the other.
Cheers,
Camo.

Sweet. Yeah I wouldn't stay down that way, but more likely stay in Legian or Seminyak to stay away from the hussle & bussle. I would be keen to travel each day though to avoid the crowds a little on a SUP. I will take my short board but I'm so into SUP right now I'm sure I'll be on that most days.

kijangs, panthers, or my personal favorite and own car of choice apv....VVVV

transfers from travel agent are a rip off, when you get there, buy a taxi voucher from the airport for 60,000rp or walk past the mosh pit into the car park and negotiate your deal there.
not everyone has racks or tie downs, but you never really go fast enough anywhere to stress a leggie out too much. (i'm talking from the airport to hotel)
hit canggu early, real early, once local traffic gets up and going, its a nitemare, and then bikes become the only real choice. leave your board there and then bike it back the next time you go.

the guy that owns playgrounds resort on nusa lembongan is a sup,has a sup school /sup business in noosa (chris deaboitz).when he is there he is the man to see..plenty of sup hire there, sanur way i think but they charge a motza for their equipment,i would love to see all but the very best sup surfers stroke into most of the breaks,i get the impression that parts of sanur are supable, imagine a sup at bingin or greenballs

Windy, you should be able to take it, it's just a matter of whether you will have to pay for it as freight or not. Usually with boards, anything under 3 metres accounts for 5 kg of your luggage allowance, no charge. Over that and it has to go as freight.
As to where to SUP, am hanging to try Dreamlands myself.

So my 9'-10" converts to 2997mm and packed it would weigh apx 12kg so I would have to pay excess baggage on 7kg for this board...is that right ?

What happens if it is over the 3m mark ? I'm planning a trip at the end of the year.

well with just 3mm to spare I would be hoping you get a near sighted and partially deaf check in attendant and hope like hell they are feeling generous.

If it's over 3m then it goes as freight, full weight and pay full amount. If it's under 3m then it's free from a $ aspect except that it takes 5kg (regardless of the boards weight) out of your 20kg allotment. That's if you fly economy of course.

* Passengers who anticipate having bulky items, excess baggage or require extra assistance should arrive at the airport to check in at least 2 hours prior to the scheduled departure time for flights departing from a domestic terminal and 3 hours prior to the scheduled departure time for flights departing from an international terminal
* In addition to the allowance Jetstar will carry at no additional charge in the hold a fully collapsible wheelchair and/or mobility aid for you if you are dependent on them
* In addition to the allowance Jetstar will carry at no additional charge in the hold baby accessories such as a pram and portable cot, if you are travelling with an infant.

As we left our booking so late last year,we had no choice other than fly with Jet Star. After hearing some HORROR stories regarding length of boards they allow,I lashed out for another Mal,9.1 to take my quiver to the grand total of 6!
My weapons of choice range from 9.4 to 10.0! So once I returned I sold it

WINDY, thanks for the information your a champion! I will pass is onto my mate!

Hey Rob,at the time I measured my 9.4 packed and it came in 50mm longer than JetStar allow, its got sometime to do with the luggage bay's in the aircraft,so they told me!As girls love to shop, weight had a lot to do with buying a surf tech MacTavish,My wife loved it as it gave her more shopping weight!BTW,if I can give you a tip with excess, buy a 20kg excess luggage here before you go!

if i was going to indo to sup i would love to ride "impossibles", on a sup i wouldn't be that impossible with the extra speed and drive you get. the bigger it gets the slower it breaks. not too hard getting back out if you dont pull off too close to the reef shelf and usually uncrowded.
