I'm in warringah shire in Sydney and I've been building a board, I finished it today and just as I was giving it the last wet sand, a neighbour from 2 doors down suddenly appears my neighbours garden with a phone in his hand and tells me he's doing a video of me because I'm not allow to do what I'm doing.

i said it's personal use and I think I am allowed to do it, to which he gave no reply and simply waked away and back into his housewould may give gouncil a call tomorrow and ask them if it's okay.

I don't really enjoy people taking videos of me without my consent.

As long as you are not breaking noise laws you can do what you want. That's what the council told my mate up here, and he is doing a few boards a week.

I would be going down and sticking that phone up his arse....pricks like that ruin this world

I don't think the noise could have been an issue, when I took the scab off the blank about 3 weeks ago, I reckon I only did around 6 planers stroke per side before I switched to the hand sander.

The next time I use the planer in was about 10 days ago when I cut the rail bands, that was about 10 to 12 strokes per side.

Then today I machine sanded the deck and the underside with 120, that took no more than 15 minuted per side, before I finish everything with a little hand sander and some 600 wet n dry.

Never once did I make noise before 10am or after 6pm, and none of the noise I made came close to a lawn mower or an edge trimmer.

Pretty sad form.

At the very least he should have come over and mentioned his concerns with you,if it all turned ugly well them maybe he could take some action but to film somebody in their own home is low and probably against the law.

Obct I'm not sure if it is legal to make a board in your garage and I think each area would have a different ruling, saying that people have been making boards in their garage for years.Noise inside the hours is fine I'm not sure about the fumes.

I take it you don't know this chap? Sounds like a Manly supporter

fumes are not a problem generally unless you live in a block of units and your building it in the foyer......just like painting your deck or people rebuilding cars(way more smell and noise).

build another one just to really piss him off....and im with mac, must be a manly supporter

unless he is talking about the resin smell. what was he talking about noise or smell.

i know 2 pak polyurethane floor finish can smell, but you're allowed to use it.
as for noise if its 7am-5pm you are fine.

if the council comes around tell them its solares .

like chrispy,l would of said fark off champion and pulled out the nail gun and punched out 500 nails into a piece of wood.

Not sure if he's a Manly supporter mac, he's a South African, they're usually mad keen rugby supporters.

I have 2 neighbors on the other side who have religiously, for the past 15 yeas done a special coating on their fake paved driveways every year, it stinks the whole street out and even makes it difficult to sleep, but none of us ever complain.

This link is the state guide.

www5.austlii.edu.au/au/legis/nsw/consol_reg/seppacdc2008721/s2.43.html

Building a board at home is considered exempt as the primary use of the property is residential and the board is being built by an occupant and not being used by a third party coming to the house for a business activity.

Normal noise guidelines apply;

www.epa.nsw.gov.au/your-environment/noise/neighbourhood-noise/preventing-neighbourhood-noise

From an air viewpoint you have no issues. It's personal and not commercial.

Hope that helps.

OB, he's just violated your privacy by photographing you without your consent, that's actually illegal unless they're from an authority, like the Police or an insurance company doing surveillance. You can actually request that he deletes the video. He also entered your property in-invited, also illegal if you take thletter of the law.

You could check with the police on these two matters, and the council as well.

Realistically he's a neighbour, and we all should try to get on. Perhaps invite him in for a beer, then invite yourself over to his place and video him on the dunny or something, just to prove your point that he's just a tosser with no life and should mind his own business.....

Happy New Year!

I wouldn't have thought that would be any different to building a go cart or something?
either way I think you should burn his house down.

The bloke sounds like a 24 carrot f***wit. What a shame that you can not choose your neighbours I have built 8 boards in the shed and never had an issue. I have also helped a mate build one in his unit block garage in Warringah. I can not see any issue with this activity OB - the only thing they might get you for is the noise issue - which you have covered yourself on and the wastage - so make sure you dispose of everything correctly - otherwise just ignore him. No point igniting things further.

Share your thoughts with a personal message.

Great way of doing this is with "round - up" on his manicured lawn. Use a nice medium sized nozzle'd weed sprayer for the application to make sure its neat though.

" Happy New Year" could be nice?
