^^ hey Katana, Did you hang some chum off the back of boards to attract some sharks over there testing?? Or is that just WA practice??

na fraid not mate , we didn't do any testing in Reunion with baits
the only place where baits and boards were used was at 200miles of the coast of Mexico in Guadalupe

Why tell porkies then??
Was any of the local Abolone divers/ surfing community aware of what you were up to in Espy.? That's right on the doorstep of places that people have been bitten and taken. Not a smart move to be Burleying up intensionally to attract sharks to surfboards not only to mention being very insensitive to the local environment and also people and families that have been taken in that area, which authority's allowed this 'Research' to go ahead???

hey mate just to clear up things up we advised all the local heads WA govt and the commercial diving commuinty and received go ahead from fisheries . we spent along time getting the permits as I have been around the world .
no sharks were rewarded with any food in the WA testing and there was also no (chum) as you asked above ^^
we used sound to attract sharks off the bottom then some small pieces of bait in a secure canister to draw them towards a plank of timber .
im not sure you are aware ive dedicated the past 7 Years to saving both surfers and sharks ?

Okay so to clarify. Firstly zero burly was used at Salisbury island. (Actually burly was only ever used at Neptune Island, im sure you're aware of the cage diving industry).

As for the notifying the Abb divers, yes, 100% that was part of the condition of Dave's permit. So the head of the Abalone industry was fully notified, in fact Marc Payne spent much of his time paddling around in his boat the entire time they were out their. Sadly for them it was the same time that the Discovery film team were out their "fishing and filming" (without any permits) great whites.

Let's remember the distance from shore for Salisbury Island is 163 km. The bait Dave would have used would have been less, than the bait about to be hung by a Ex abb diver less than a few hundred meters from surfers daily down south.

SO Herbyburger to be clear, you must be extremely opposed to the SDL trial if your this outraged at a few baits 163 km for shore..? Right..?

Well we do live in the age of outrage

So it seems.

If anyone is not sure of Dave's motivations with this product, go ask him to retell the story of surfing with a guy who lost an arm to a shark recently in Reunion. Watch his face as he explains and understands the fear for this guy, who hadn't virtually surfed in over two years. Then how they shared waves for over two hours together. It's the most animated and motivated i think i've ever seen on his (normally monotone, Sorry Dave) Dial..

JB Shack you need to do your research, Salisbury Island is only 60km from shore and regularly surfed waves... This is my point. The location chosen.
It's better people know the truth.

As for the SDL rollout. I'm a bit like Marc Payne and his company ( whom won theSDL Contract)on this one, a big part of me says peace out on the sharks, don't touch them in their environment, let them go about their business they need protection from humans,
Wait---- hang on a minute, did someone say $contract$.
Yep, grab some drums, bang some meat on a big hook and set them.
Can you be a Shark conservation lover one minute then be baiting them up and hanging them off hooks and dragging their sorry ass back out to sea.
Full circle,, if it's good enough for him then why not???

I'm not sure if you're implying that I was endangering any surfers in this area ?
i consulted with the families of atacks before entering the area also
out aim was purely to have minimal impact on the environment and help the local community during the 2 day testing
can you please call me so we can clear up any confusion? Be great to clear it up ????
cheers

I got no problems with the goal of what your trying to achieve and the amount of effort it takes to do this.
I commend you for this.
Just the location and method you chose to do it. Next time ,Best to take a turd in your own backyard and not someone else's.

You did say Salisbury to Esperance. That distance is the 163 km thats what i referred to.

Sadly these types of products need to be tested somewhere, The Cage diving options are just nuts, but for what was used at Salisbury would not be much worse than a cray pot. A few days of testing compared to what Marc is venturing on, im glad you can see the irony in that..

The point i made was all aspects of best case testing were undertaken..

No , I said Salisbury to shore (closest mainland coast) is 60km , I got mates missing limbs from surfing around that territory. Like I said not a smart move using bait to attract sharks to surfboards.
And just straight honesty from the beginning would be better then you don't have to keep backpedalling. Not 'Quote,' the only place we used baited boards was in Mexico, when I asked if this is WA practice.

Hi herby
Under our conditions set from the minister there was no chum or oils at Salisbury and as a surfer and using common sense no Surfboards were used so the sharks could not Asociate food with Surfboards
testing was done in one of the most remote islands of the Wa coast and in the best interest for you and all surfers around The globe
i have been on research trips where the scientists used chum and I disagree with this practice as I see the change I. There behaviour .

Chum, burley, Bait. Whatever you want to call it don't matter.
The sharks are friendly enough down here without you and your research team, the Discovery channel crew and anyone else messing with them with underwater rock concerts and baits.
Best do it where you live and surf and your local ecosystem.

Whilst your online complaining about a small amount of testing for a few days so far from shore it's really a absolute non issue, Dave is out changing lives. This is a photo of him with a shark attack survivor in Reunion helping him find his surf mojo. As for your ecosystem, it's all ours mate, the ocean are interconnected and sharks are all our problem.

This guy had tried to re surf unsuccessfully for nearly two years, he paddled out after this photo completely struggling, nearly crippled with fear (Not a pun as he is now a Knee boarder) only to stay out for over two hours splitting a peak and sharing waves with Dave..

^^^ this guys is the 3rd surfer to loose an arm surfing at this break ! I was so stoked to see the smile on his dial after his first wave!
to be able to donate 3 systems to these local amputees and get them back out doing what we all love was pretty humbling

I genuinely think what you're doing is great, the world needs people like yourself working on R&D however i think you must test against this behaviour?

I truly hope it works for you and you end up having a few more 0's in your bank but I have experienced big (3m+) sharks (mainly tigers, makos and bulls) change their behaviour in an instant (particularly around live food or when piss them off) and if a product says it will stop a shark from attacking a human, it needs to stop the very biggest and angriest ones and not just the real lazy ones cruising along with a belly full of fish, seal or whale.

That's awesome Dave good on ya. Partial placebo effect or not it's great they can get back out there mentally . I've got a mate in a similar place and it's a real struggle for him to even have a swim 8 years on.

Dave, once again I recommend you politely ask bjshack to stop representing you. He's like Sarah Huckabee Sanders/Kellyanne Conway/Sean Spicer all rolled in to one. Not that I'm implying you're Trump though
