Twilight sailing not Racing is happening again this year starting from Wednesday.

Not twilight racing this year just a good old fashioned cruise and tune up session as every time we organise a night at Balmoral we get skunked. This year is going to be different as far the wind goes but just in case we'll have some Stand Up Paddleboards there to make sure we'll get to the water.

Venue: Balmoral Sailing Club.
Time: 5pm.
Contact: Sam, Chris, James. 9971 0999.

Hi,

a couple of questions.

Do you bring your own gear?

Whats the parking like there and do you have pay for parking?

It'll run all Summer. If particular days are looking sweet we may try to plan one even up to the day before but Wednesday will be our regular.

As for when we stop we'll go until daylight saving ends or until no-one turns up.

I currently have my school sport at Balmoral (sailing & windsurfing) and can honestly say that a good NE does get in there. The side on wich the big white light house seems to get a steady NE which is squeezed between the two headlands. I have seen some slalom guys moving very quickly out there. Lanuching is a complete bitch! You need to walk/swim out almost past the line of boats moored (its pretty shallow) right at the southern end of the beach near the sailing club, waterstart and away you go. It does get very gusty and shifty sometimes.

Last year I headed to Long Reef for guaranteed session NE wise and nothing! But there was 15knts at Balmoral for a fun session - go figure.

Take your big gear. I have some fun on a 7.5 and Starboard Go.
cheers
Tim

Take my formula kit for a spin if you want but if the wind doesn't fade it might be a bit on the big side. Will do some more demo stuff next week when we are a bit more organised.

Did it happen today? It was looking good but I saw thunderhead clouds coming over from the South West, coming over Hornsby. In my experience those sort of clouds kill seabreezes stone dead.

I could not make it because of work and general disorganisation.

I will be prepared for next wednesday, weather permitting.

Killed it big time. The storm clouds started brewing over Warragamba and there was a big dark thunderhead that backed the sea breeze right off.
After everyone decided that it was a no go the clouds slowly moved away and the wind seemed to pick back up again for a little while. Dont know if anyone sailed at Botany, Balmoral or Narra. From Sat on it looks like being great cond.........
Ill stop right now for fear of Huey listening in.

I don't feel so bad now that I was stuck at the JP Morgan Corporate run with Crash watching thousands of girls in singlets and 3/4 lycra tights running around Centennial Park
Anyone heading to Umina this weekend camping or is it just me? Hopefully someone else will be out sailing Broken Bay...

The other alternative on Wednesdays, for those who can't make Balmoral, is the legendary Dobroyd series. We get over 30 boards at times, plus juniors, and there's racing in Raceboard and Windsurfer One Design classes. After racing, we head up the road for pizza.

Anyone looking for a social sail on Mondays can also head on down to Gunnamatta Bay at 6pm, where you'll find Raceboards and Windsurfer One Designs.

What time does racing start at Dobroyd? Do you need to register?

Hi Munter

The first sailors go off around 6 pm. It's a handicap start so the last guys are starting about 6.25. Of course, we normally run a bit late.

You can register by just signing in at the car park on Rodd Point. If you want to race regularly you have to sign up for DAC/Windsurfing NSW, at $50 - I think all of that goes on insurance, the beers for placegetters are courtesy of FlameCut fabrications.

It'd be good to see you there, anyone at the Point can fill you in on the details - or just look for the One Design sailor who doesn't stop talking or the guys with silver or plywood trailers and they'll fill you in on the details.

We are back on tomorrow night down at Balmoral.

The more the merrier so come on down. We won't be racing but are going to be doing a bit of tuning and just freesailing for anyone who's keen.

Cheers,

Sam.

First week yet that the storms held off until after we came in.

Nice nights sailing in about 20ish knots NE with a couple of quiet ones afterwards.
