The neanderthal on the black and yellow Jet Ski yesterday at Kyeemagh was in particular pain in the backside just doing mindless donuts metres from shore - must have been his first day out after his lobotomy.

They're the worst... yes, the guy doing donuts about 20m off the beach at Kyeemagh yesterday was a right d1ckhead. I heard him get yelled at several times, but it didn't stop him. Once the wind gets up (above 25) they all disappear :) Tools!!

A year or so ago I took some video of a bloke riding his noisy and smelly jet ski just off the shore at Kyeemagh, doing circles and silly things like that. I took some photos too, clearly identifying the registration number of the jet ski. I sent the video and pictures to the Maritime Services Board. The bloke who responded said they went out to talk to the registered owner about it and the owner said his brother was riding the jet ski that day.

I think if we want to change attitudes we need to do something like this. There is no point appealing to their better nature. However there are risks involved following this course of action too.

Yeah I agree that most jet ski riders are tools. Yet to meet those who are not.

Was SUP surfing at the Box off Umina on the long weekend and there were three of them doing jumps right in the middle of the take off zone and even when we got closer to them they just stayed there and kept jumping and ignored us. One even landed about 20 metres away and gave me a big "look at me being a dickhead" smile and then kept going. I gave up after that and came in....not worth being landed on I reckon.

We had them here yesterday also.
I had my kids on the SUP near shore, another group had their kids in and out of the water and as it was mega flat some were really little (like 18mth olds standing in the water)

Jetski comes thru at 40kn plus, no more than 5m from shore.

There was going to be a Water Police Squad Jet Ski Squadron - but nothing more heard since Oct 2012.
Gov't cutbacks?

Report an incident or accident
www.rms.nsw.gov.au/documents/maritime/safety-rules/recreational-vessel-incident-report.pdf

& instructions here
www.rms.nsw.gov.au/maritime/safety-rules/incidents-emergencies/incident-reporting.html

A bit of Water Police presence or Maritime may (?) deter or improve behaviour.

Better still, confiscate the jet ski like they do/can for car hoons.

Kyeemagh on a sunny sunday afternoon is no place for windsurfing now. Reading the above Im pleased I drove the extra distance to sail from Kurnell, only one or two jet skis there yesterday.
But the traffic on the way back, what a nightmare

They are on par with the fishermen who throw a stack of lines out. So far I have seen a few windsurfers hooked, probably going for the children as well and who would eat a fish from there anyway? Is there anything to stop people throwing hooks into the shallows on a crowded beach. Common dog usually prevails but not in this area!!

The jet skis were a real problem at Kyeemah yesterday. I had no near misses like I have in the past (mostly when they are not looking where they are going), but they were just in the way near the shore. The good thing was that you could go away from the launch area and then they were not a problem. I tended to stay out over the other side, and it was fine. They seem to need to be attention seekers who need the beach goers to see that they are doing, so they don't go to the other side where the windsurfing is best. Once the wind picked up, the top corner and down the runway was great. Hardly and water craft, and flattish water and strong winds with just 5 or so other windsurfers to share it with.

Had a few fishing of the break water at the harbour entry, they were throwing lines across the entry. We finished a regatta so a lot of yachts were coming in, the idiots were shouting abuse to us for running the lines. The funny part is one of the idiot removed his T shirt , show his fist to one of the oldie on his yacht and run around the breakwater to go and kick his head in (that what he was shouting????), water police was at the ramp and they took care of the bogan as he turned to the ramp!
What a bench of morons they are!

Next time jetskiers are hooning:

1. make sure windsurfers are not speeding in close to beach or near swimmers or gybing in close.

2. Report jetskier hooning or irresponsible driving to Marine Area Command (Water Police) Botany office

3. Or direct to Botany boat crew mob 0418 221 100 (they have jetskis stationed there)

Info from Sydney harbour office just now. Very helpful

I hate to be "devils advocate". The ~100 Jetskiers around the places I have sailed in the past 6 years have been law abiding. I could not pick a fault with them, except for one peanut doing 100km/h along the shore near swimmers (but that was when I first started in 2008). To be honest, I see dangerous stuff from windsurfers around swimmers on a session basis in summer (I won't quote figures).

That part of Botany seems to attract a particular type of jetskier, who seems to want to show off how fast he is compared to you, or so that his mate/mum/girlfriend on the shore can see them.

The one's I have seen down the coast are only seen when they launch at the same place, but after that you never see them. The ones at Kyeemagh (Botany) want to be seen and don't seem to want to go too far from shore.

To be honest - I've got nothing but admiration for the local jetskiiers around here. They always move down the beach but mainly go out when there's no one in the water. They are also bloody good to watch doing rolls, flips and nice aerials.

I've even given one a drag race on my windsurfer - he won... with a big cheesy grin and a thumbs up from both of us before heading back to his mates.

I can see how they could be annoying with idiots in charge though.

The water police are just not doing their job in controlling these hoons.
This discussion comes up every season.
Botany must have the highest concentration of idiot jet skiers in Sydney,it should not be that hard to station a boat there on sunny weekends.
Did anyone see a police boat on Sunday,I certainly did not.
Its a disgrace that they can get away with doing doughnuts 10 meters off the beach amongst the kiddie swimmers.
This was on a jet ski the size of a small car,I kid you not.
These were four buffheads taking turns to show off in front of their mates on the southern side of the swimming baths without the slightest concern for any other water user.
The Marine Area Command number is 1800 658 784 ,please ring them and express your concers, they probably dont read this forum.

I went to this forum, signed up and did a search for Kyeemagh and also Botany Bay. Almost all threads have posts referring to the behaviour of jet skiers there. So its not just us windsurfers complaining about the people doing donuts 5 meters off shore or not giving right of way. Plenty of people who seem to be responsible jet skiers are complaining about the same thing.

Not sure if this can be viewed without registration but this thread is indicative of the feelings of the PWC forum members.

The importance of a comma! I didn't realise what your issue was, until I reread it as " . . . more than 100, metres off the beach . . .".

But, agree with you. We get them at designated PWC beaches on the NSW South Coast; thankfully not yet a problem at Merimbula.

Yeah they should just go back to where they came from !
do you guys want to come and get a Southern Cross tattoo so we can be blood brothers bonded in the love of Australia and keeping Australia for Australians?
we should get some stickers for our cars at the same time that say 'I grew here you flew here'

in all seriousness, sometimes I'm totally perplexed by the spread of xenophobic sentiment in this country.

To be honest I don't think it has anything with xenophobia. Its all got to do with the actions and behaviour of individuals. Its also got to do with the fact that this bit of open waterway is the closest with a boat ramp for around two million people.

ha, the only reason you people make such a big deal about the jet skis at Bot, is because they are Lebs, they intimated you, and you feel you have no recourse about it apart from whinging about it

If this were white kids, then there would be heaps of white heros confronted them, but since there Lebs, the average middle class cracker finds them offensive and unapproachable

It wouldn't matter if these kids weren't on jetskis, instead just hanging around the beach, that will still result in the average aussie taken offense, mainly cause their intimated, simply

The jet skis on bot have nothing on the crackers, drunk as, around Pittwater,

Ive noticed boats, big fishing tinnies, drive around bot like crazy, in fact, I think a sailor was run over by one at Bot.........but its always the Lebs on jet skis that is complained about

are we really that quick to lump all jet skiers together?
We as windsurfers tend to hate being stereotyped, and hate even more being associated with kites.
its a slippery dippery slope people. be careful.
