Thank you Chris. Lechner is perfect!

Let's try to bring known boards...because this is an official Event and in case board is really unknown...we will need to measure it

Regarding sails size...

Cat C allows you to join with any type of sails..up to 8.5 for lights and Ladies and 9.5 for heavy weights (starting 78 kg and above).
If we don't have quorums to make weight divisions (Light & Heavy, mini 5 sailors each...), we will all be sailing in same division.

If we finally elect to be all Cat B sails, we'll be limited to 7.5 m2 surface sail, whatever sailor weight is.
Again, there must be at least 5 Cat B sailors to make a division... otherwise they got diluted in the next Cat C (that's what happened at Europeans)

Hi All
In earlier in discussions I thought we decided on 7.5m2. It is going to be windy in QLD, morning and afternoon so lets all be on a level playing field and I will be taking a smaller sail too!!!
The aim for this event is to encourage partipation and most of us have a 7.5 we can use.
My thoughts......Geoff

I still fully intend to get there, but I'm not going to register until shortly before the event.

Hell Guys, Girls

Any other courageous sailors to fill D2 starting line Brisbane? :)

Make no mistake, we'll make the headlines, more than finishing on the podium ;)

Notice of Cancellation
The organising committee regrets to announce the cancellation of the DII Oceanic Championships, the Techno 293 Oceanic Championships, and the Australian Open Windsurfing Festival. These events were scheduled to be run from 21st to the 25th of November 2016 in conjunction with the Raceboard World Championships. This has become necessary due to the lack of entries.

But All Is Not Lost. The Raceboard World Championship is still on with 60+ competitors already entered.
We would like to encourage any sailors who planned to enter these events to consider moving their entry to the Raceboard Worlds. For those who don’t wish to sail with larger sails, there is provision in the Worlds NOR for a 7.8m division. There is a requirement for the boards to be from the approved Raceboards list. http://www.sailing.org/tools/documents/RaceboardCompleteList-[20754].pdf If your board is not on this list, we have a number of options available for charter boards ranging from complete new Techno 293 kits for $300, some RSOne kits to older longboards (by arrangement with owners). Some new Starboard Phantom377s may also still be available for charter.

For further information, please contact Tony Matta. Ph: 0418 737 823. or send PM

Hello Guys,

Following cancellation of D2 Oceanics...

Not time for D2 lovers to give up but rather keep momentum and regroup to sail D2s anytime, everywhere it is possible.

Make it happening, bring your friends back, one by one.

Next time it will be D2's turn to shine :) No worries!

Éric

I'll try to get something going after the Windsurfer One Design nationals. A simple weekend regatta will do, but we'll have to allow time for people to recharge their batteries after the worlds.

wouldn't the biggest barrier to D2 participation be the lack of boards? I can't even remember seeing a D2 board for sale. I'm an old Mistral EQ user, and they are like hens teeth!

Here in WA I've not seen a D2 on the water or for sale. I'd love one so still looking.
The other issue is getting a suitable sail for them. Tight leach twin cam old school that won't fall apart after 2 outings.
Oh well , live in hope!

Just putting it out there to see if anyone has an idea what a Crit D2 in perfect condition might be worth?

For me, I was looking at spending $600 for a pretty good condition D2.

Some have asked more for these boards but that is the region I was willing to spend. It's hard to put a value as people are trying to buy them, so there is a demand, but on the other hand they are all over 25 years old pretty much, so that comes into play for me.

Some people have had them hanging on their walls for the last 20 years and are pricing them as the exquisite pieces of art they are, but...

Thanks Jethrow. I' m thinking of selling mine and it's good to know what I should be asking around. Shame to see it just sitting there.

Hey Barry, don't let me set the price.
A post like this could well start a feeding frenzy that might escalate beyond all belief!

have asked this before
you folks seem to think this board s/b purchased IMMEDIATELY
www.kijiji.ca/k-set-location.html

and said it would NOT stay for sale long in Auzland
IF i were to purchase it, that would be for a smaller inland lake
to replace beaten up BIC Dufour Wings
thoughts ??

also have a Mistral Equipe 2 XR carbon that I use on the larger inland lakes
just use that one on the small lake instead ??
would prefer to have a board always there @ the smaller lake !!

for what point of sail, downwind I am assuming, why use footstraps on the leeward side, I don't understand and I am interested because I have an old Dobelmann I am doing up and having never sailed one I don't know the technique's

I would be interested to hear about any other D2 specific techniques if any one can share

For extreme downwind in heavy conditions in the early years of Lechner Olympic board
Later a more "normal" strap setup .But if necessary you might still use the one on the leeward site .
A bit like on the first Formula boards downwind .

Hmmm... Of course railing upwind is the classic D2 point of sail that just feels so good. Not so much a locked in position as on a raceboard with the upwind straps, for me I liken it more to flying a hull on a beach cat. It's all about finding the balance and subtle heel/toe pressure.
I also love running square with enough wind to make it challenging. A tip I picked up here (Chris249 I think) was to err on the leeward side with my foot positions and weight. It feels like frictionless skating in leather boots downhill on ice, the board sometimes accelerating down a little ramp away from my bodyweight nearly toppling me over backwards. I like to keep the mast track and my weight as far forward as I can control going square, the board stays flat and really trucks along. (I have no idea if this is actually faster or if this was the technique used by the top guys back in the day - I like the way it feels, and I have no-one to race, so what feels good it is!)
I use more centreboard reaching than I would have thought. Again it just feels better, less side slip more push forward, a little bit of lift to the windward rail.
... and yep, leeward strap broad reaching when the wind strength warrants it. For me that weight to leeward is needed to keep the board level or slightly windward rail up. I also think it has to be pretty windy to warrant using that strap, it's a bit of a safety crutch otherwise and I feel the board goes better with my weight a touch further forward very often. When first on the D2 I'd bear off and slip my foot back to that strap, which is reassuring for sure, however now I mostly use it only when I find my foot back there of it's own accord.
Last thing I can think off at the moment is when transitioning, moving around, gybing particularly, with one foot momentarily lifted and the other taking all my weight, (unless the centreboard is loaded up providing stability) I find myself putting the weighted foot across the board and centered (side to side) that way I can balance the board with heel to toe pressure as I flip the rig and step forward (or whatever). I can't say it's always totally successful though!

Dobbelman specific: There is less rocker than the Lechner. Upwind as the wind comes up rake the centreboard a touch to bring the nose up as the wind rises.

Fun. How goes the refurb?

Thanks for taking the time to share all that info, refurb is going slow due to spending to much time windsurfing, but should be a good board again once its done.

I have adapted an RSX track to fit, the centreboard I have is from a Lechner I am told, its a little bit fat for the case so I either need to make the centreboard thinner or make the case a little wider. I think making the centreboard a little skinnier is the better option, only talking 1 to 2mm. After that its just making it pretty with some fairing and a paint.

I have a 9.5mtr Barracouta sail (dacron, 4 or 5 batten no cam, very light) I think will go nicely with the board and make a nice setup for light winds.

Hi Guys,
We are currently evaluating feasibility to load a container from the US with dozen of D2 boards, different shapes, going from "need repairs" to "ready to go" ...Anyone interested?
Who takes the lead to list wish list?
