Too late greeny, it's at the tip by now!
Cut it earlier this week, (was getting a bit hot and uncomfortable) now it's as short as Derek's.
If you're serious remind me about this time next year and I'll save it for you!

I wear a gath of the older visor style. Ive read a couple of reports in international windsurfing mags that I buy of windsurfers - getting a crack on the head by the mast, knocked unconscious and drowning. One was a plea by the family (of the guy in his early 40's - a highly experienced windsurfer who was knocked unco and drowned) - that a helmet would likely have saved his life.
I suppose any conversation in the morgue might go something like - "Yeah man - he was one cool windsurfer that one!"

Whats even worst is that as you reach the more mature??? part of life your pubes tend to go through a mid life crisis as well.

They start getting adventurous going exploring and wandering.

On the front you get the little trail going up to ya belly button, come your mid 30's their up around your nips.

The back is even worst, they seem to bring the aroma up with them.

Beards are good though, the missus didn't like mine when I was your age (argghhh god I'm sounding old now) but now she won't let me shave it off, she keeps telling me I'm to ugly without it, realistically I'm ugly with it so the look must be pretty horrendous.

A beard also has a benefit for when the for when the middle aged spread comes to visit. I had to shave it of to get onto the Murin site, when I came back she started calling me here big Chow Pei for all the chins and folds I had. The kids just said, "Grow it back Dad".

I recently replaced my old stack lid with a "surf convertible". So far no problems with the ear pieces coming off. Pugwash, have you got them clipped in properly ? The convertible has thicker padding than the older style Gath. I reckon this probably means better impact protection (head decelerates more slowly over bigger distance). Also there is more forehead protection.

Keep the ear pieces on. Occasionally one can bust an ear drum when hitting the water hard, usually from a loop gone bad, but maybe a bad catapult too. Depending on severity, can mean several months off the water and sometimes hearing never really returing to normal.

sorry greenroom, what was I thinking ? It's worse when the hair migrates from the top of the head to the nostrils and ears.

Don't know anything about BMX helmets, so can't coment on their impact resistance, but they should be made to land head first on rocks I guess.

But one thing to watch with windsurfing helmets is their size.
The bigger the helmet, the more resistance to entering the water. If you have a high speed wipe out, hitting the water head first can cause a lot of neck strain.
Gaths are about as small as you can get them with enough padding, so their compare size.
The other thing might be saltwater problems.

i got a gecko helmet. decided to put it on today after hitting my head when i botched a trick.

couldn't believe after i put it on i then hit my head with the fin after botching a tack. am glad i wore it.

all's i need now is a helmet for my ankle. hurt that when i ran over my foot after botching a scissor gybe.

lol,

nothing fancy elmo. i can't do tricks but thought i'd give it a go. i still fall off during gybes, i just don't hit my head.

i had this thread goin through my head after i put on the helmet and proceeded to bash myself.

edit" funny thing yesterday i tried my first vulcan right in front of haircut and crashed big time. so i got my helmet out of the car. i asked haircut later that day what i did wrong. he thought i had tried a forward loop so i guess i got a lot wrong.
