I started windsurfing in 1978 (as a teenager) and I think ever since about 1979 I've been hearing the same "it never blows like it used to" stuff.

The funny thing is that so often we see people saying there's no wind, and we look out and see longboards planing, Lasers and other dinghies heeling, and yachts looking for a smaller headsail. The problem is the breeze windsurfers expect and buy gear for, not the breeze we get - in my humble opinion, anyway.
A year or two ago we had one day of 18-22 knot sea breezes (confirmed by the bureau weather station 200m away) and even better the next day, and both days there were guys whining about the "crappy" wind. I have to say I suspect that the problem is just that people get gear for top end speed and also just going back and forth in flat water does get boring after a while, but some people blame the lack of thrills on the weather.
I'm currently training on LAser dinghies, a couple of years ago it was fast catamarans, and it always seems to be windy, not light.
