Howdy Nebbian. Not ignoring you- just offline for a while. Method 1 of dislocation: set up for a gybe, lean in too far when slightly overpowered, try to correct by pulling hard on outstreched sheet arm while leaning forward and low, and pop- anterior dislocation. Done that a couple of times. Method 2: when waterstarting with a firm grip on the mast, arm above head level, kick unknown underwater wildlife and jolt body in uncontrolled spasm of terror. Ensure that grip on mast is tighter than force keeping shoulder in socket, and wrench said shoulder from said socket. Again, anterior dislocation. For both methods, waterstart with shoulder out of socket, sail in bouncing on chop to enhance experience, and get nearest sailer on beach to derig and put gear in car. Either drive yourself to casualty or, more preferred, call ambo's.

I never knew windsurfing was so dangerous!
I suppose we're mainly hearing from those who've had injuries, rather than those who havn't since the former is more interesting, so to give a more balanced view, over my 20+ years of hard wavesailing (I do most maneuvers except pushloops and new school freestyle, I've never had more than minor cuts, scrapes, and bruises.

Wendell, to make up for your shortfall, you have to sail full speed into a ferry.

When I was 16 I once failed to engage the little pins on my mast base properly and when I got to full speed the joint came apart. The rest is a blur but I was stunned for a moment then pulled myself onto my board and spat what seemed to be a mouthful of sand out of my mouth. Soon afterwards I realised it was the shattered remains of 3 of my front teeth. My Dad knew a dentist so we rushed down to his surgery, he plugged the gums up then we went back sailing, it was a classic day at Towradgi, Wollongong. The pain hit me that night, I couldn't sleep, we had school photos the following week, I look like I've been hit with a baseball bat.

Peto, that was a tattoo wasn't it? not a pimple.
It was your sponsors logo. I thought you'd get a bonus if you got a shot of it on TV.

Well I don't wait for injuries. Waiting is for whimps.
When I'm sailing, I pull a screwdriver out of my harness and start stabbing myself with it.

This one time I was just getting to the beach and peto was crawling up the beach crying and screaming in agony. I asked him what he had done and he had actually broken a nail, no joke, it was hardcore!

My story was about ten years ago as a beginner on a windsurfer transformer sailing on tuggerah lake on NSW central coast, went for a jump and my back foot came clean out of the straps (which were not adjustable in any way) landed with only one foot on the board and the rest of my body swung beneath it, was lucky not to snap my left knee in two, just damaged ligaments, got a week off work but couldn't sail for a few more, don't let it get you down and get on with it as soon as possible
