Hey ! I checked it out on Friday - a fuc king shambles gear evwryqhere and hard to find some stuff seen online
I bought a new mast at a bargain $200 for new gorilla 430 but other than that got outbid. Things went for crazy lrices! Some boards looked good but the grip 89 was ****d it had bubbles and was peeling on bottom (see pics)
grip 99 was good nick but still went for $700 with no straps or fins so fairly normal. Grip 82 was covered in dirt but fine someone got a bargain with that for around $300 (2019 model)
most sails were brand new so bargains there but it was all a mess

I'm guessing from many of the comments on here that not many people move in the circles of commercial auctions. LLoydes will not give a **** if its windsurfing gear or washing machines. These Auction houses work on the fast turnover principle get it in get it out make your fixed margin. Im not at all surprised items have gone walkabout. The staff will kick **** out of the way for the next pallet of stuff. Ive seen whole collections split (stamp albums) and therefore destroyed at Raffen and Kellahers here in Sydney.

As for all the neigh sayers and conspiracy theorists here, some comments are laughable. The shop had three sections SUP Windsurf and Kite. The fire was in the SUP section and gutted, the board rack was on the other side of that wall , masts fins booms etc were at the other end of the shop, windsurfing sails in the middle of that room, the kite gear round a corner. The place was a complete mess after the fire it stank and was very black. Some boards were extracted before it got too bad as far as I know. Some gear would be fried, some may be fine having been far enough from the extreme heat, you would have to inspect it & I'm guessing from the photos & prices some gear was in good order, got inspected and purchased.

Spot on.

Seems many of the naysayers had their own agenda- its pretty clear a board that only saw 60deg for a few hours is postcured (its better now!!!) and that much of it is junk.

Still can;t believe I paid $50 for 3 straps, but the next lot was identical 3 straps and was $100...... and 5 identical straps was $150 all in the space of 90sec. Wow. Straaange

I also can't believe Lloyds used stock photos of things, and distance shots, when the Grip was bubbled like in that pic
Thats fkd. Crooks.
Their "out" is that by law it is "able to be inspected" so therefore its buyer beware. Internet auctions allow people elsewhere to bid, they should have to make reasonable efforts to show faults.

The way i see it is that everybody needs fries and drink with a burger so the shops will be there to supply those,
Almost everyone including me always wants more and more
I don't plan to stop buying gear from the shops just because i got few things today, (and i did)
Congrats to winners, share the old gear with your mates, and family
Hope to see few more sailing the coming season on the goldie
Will see you guys at the Brisbane, sunny coast and gold coast shops soon
Bring on summer .......

Wowww I watched that auction very carefully today, people just went crazyyyyy. Appart from some mast which went for quite reduced price, some items went very closed to RRP. Sure with a sweet friendly talk to your local we could get the same deal.
Looking at people behaviour, if I had a shop, I would sent put my whole shop to auction every week and replenish weekly.

I reckon in general there were some good buys as long as you stuck to a sensible plan, paying anything too much more than 50% of retail for any of this stuff is a risky plan

Yeah, I think its a scam. With the internet these days there is no excuse not to provide high resolution photos of an item so that you can see the detail, let alone using the stock images.

I think the biggest rort in auctions is the inclusion of buyer premiums outside of the bidded price. I think most people forget about these and its only when they add them up after that they realise how much they have actually spent. I learned this at my first car auction, when you feel that you bought it at price X and then find out the fees add another $500 to it.

I have seen recently where a car was listed as a fixed price an hour before an auction yet the price they got when it went to auction was a few thousand above that price and then there were fees on top of that. Obviously the auction house want you to think you are only paying the bid price up until you win it.

Apart from being very clearly stated in each auction listing when... you logged-in to bid, the total clearly included the 22% in the total cost of your bid .. even included shipping cost for small items. I guess your point didn't apply to this auction, but just a general comment for other auctions?

Descriptions and photos were screwed up though. I almost bid on some sails, then checked extra photos of the actual sail and it was different.

Prices out there.. Footstraps $50-$100 for 3
When i have stock i was selling 3 brand dakine primo with free postage for $74 bucks on ebay.... .

Some good buys but mostly overpriced , i think the shops will be glad most of the gear did not go cheap and will not appear at give away prices on the market.

^^^^ Yeah but I got 3 for 50 with screws etc.
I know your price for footstraps is good, but screws are overpriced to blazes at all the shops. That's Cobra's fault I know but still, reality.... I saved $30 plus if we count screws and anti twist thingies.

I didn't look at this auction other than an initial look at the link provided.

I think auctions, no matter where, should be run with the bid as the final price, i.e. if there is a winning bid of $100, they should work backwards to work out the buyers premium and any other charges that are included. Obviously not things that are unique like shipping.

We have been doing this with the GST for almost twenty years, although there are still a few that try and promote their items with ex.GST prices, so why are auction houses getting away with tacking on compulsory charges after the fact?

Why do they do it? I guess its so that the bidders don't realise the true cost.

so if 1 guy is buying 10 boards its pretty obvious that he has a shop, is going to fix them & sell
'them onto unsuspecting people. we should find out witch shops bought stuff & let everyone
know who they are. who was paying over $700 for the burnt up jp 150 foil board.
they will have that board in a shop with $2000 on it in a month.
the xc race booms going for over$1000 lol ha ha ha.
there wasn't much of a bargin to be had but shop owners don't give a **** if they can sell it
off as new after buying it cheaper.

I don't agree with the guy above .. I don't think there are dodgy windsurfing shop owners around ...

it's surprising that there aren't any guys that have posted comments on the boards and sails that they purchased. Or maybe today was the pickup day, so we'll get some feedback in the next few days.

You can almost count Australia's shops on one hand and I know none of them would do that ( or actually could be bothered). From what I've heard quite a few of my latent poley mates have bought some gear so maybe we will see a few more sailors out on the water more often.
I bought a few items just for a bit of fun, it's a bit like gambling!
cheers

how are u going to know if the gear is fire sale or not, do u have stock take lists of your mates
shop. business is just business. if owners can get a score, sell it on & make more than they would
normaly they will jump at it. they may have a few problems or none, that's the bad part, unsuspecting
custemers are the ones left to find out.
any body buying a 2nd hand board bring a cotton bud, wipe it up & down the mast track & fin screw holes
find any black stuff offer them a zero less.

Mate I take offence that you think any of the Guys that own the shops would try to mislead customers in that way , I am just a fellow windsurfer that has a passion for this sport and have committed my entire life to the industry , I just want to share the stoke of the best sport in the world with as many people as possible .....

On a brighter note... I'm very pleased with what I managed to grab, there's a few scratches on the sail but I'll tape them. Just disappointed I won't be able to rig anything up for 6 weeks... or sail for 10
What did others grab? :D

Mate, did you actually give this much thought? There was a lot of gear in that auction and from what I saw all of what was listed was sold. Not for a minute did I think that any of the windsurf shops would have considered buying any of that tainted gear. My conclusion was that there are probably people who make a full time living out of buying stuff and reselling it on e-bay/gumtree at a profit. They don't have to know anything about windsurfing, they would have been solely looking at the RRP prices displayed on the auction site and thinking they could con some un-suspecting buyer into paying that for it. They will get burnt (pardon the pun) though if they didn't do some research into the windsurfing population and their potential market.

I was interested in a board in the auction but had no opportunity to inspect or collect due to the location. I am still keen on the same board but will buy it at full retail price from a shop if I have to, such is my passion for the sport!

Must be awful down there in NSW with all those greedy shop owners. The guys up here in Qld we also sail with and socialise with. We know them, so we know they're not going to rip us off.
