we have the same problem on the east coast with youth in windsurfing. i am 20 and way younger then almost every other board sailor around. i came off race boards and have really just got into wave sailing. even with supplying gear for the kiddies it is stil a matter of getting down for a sail. i don't think the money is a huge issue as you can pick up decent second hand gear really cheap. kite boarders are having the same problems and are finding that most of the youth are either surfing or wakeboarding. it is a great sport
and i am heaps stoked that i got into it though the wind on this side of the country is not that great.
