I'm around and the wind should be great if we can just get rid of the rain. Very keen so let us locals know if you want to visit as there is always heaps of room for stayers. Tides are perfect now with mid pm lows so sailing in flat water from about lunchish til 5ish. Come and see!!

Tides will be better latter in the week and if the wind hangs around I will be out at Burrum for sure. 20-30knots today so did some wave sailing at Hervey Bay Sth of Harbour was ok but prefer the flat water stuff now. I heard few Brisy guys were at Burrum today and sorry for not coming out but the tides were wrong. Maybe next time, when I can try the TM45 fin I won at Sandy Point.

G'day,

I had a great time sailing at Burrum Heads and cracked a new PB.

Thanks to Knot Board for the loan of gear and encouragement.
Thanks to Geoff, HooRay and Peter for the local knowledge.
Thanks to Pierre and Vando for the inspiration watching them on the speed strip to improve and push myself to go faster.

Will definitely be back, hopefully before next Christmas.

My photos from Saturday afternoon will be posted when I get back to Mackay.

Good Sailing.

Rip.

Sorry I missed you as well. Don't like it when the fun is on and I'm not there but I will be there latter in the week again when the tides are better.

Yeah pork chop its a shame the run wasnt a starboard tack the TM 45 V7 would of hammered on the tight course.
On the saturday n sunday session i specifically did not bear off the wind and gave it a crack to see how how fast n consistant can i go on a tight course and mate it was chaotic its to bad that there wasnt stronger wind and off course a starboard run.
I'll be up there next time for sure when the tides are right n better wind.
Many thanks to Ray n Gayle for having us up there much appreciated n good to see all the speedsters having a go n catching up.

Tuesday looks like a good day and the tides are in the pm and reasonable outs to expose the sand bank. Fingers crossed and if if all comes to true I will be there and hope to try a new fin. Mall Wrght guaranteed this fin to do 45knots. Does that mean I can beat Vando???

Does that mean Haggar and Fitz will be there?? If only I could put a name/face to these nick names it would be so much easier. Pork chop is easy, he is usually the optimist sitting on the beach looking in the general dirrection of the wind and wondering why it's not blowing 10 more knots. Looking forward to sailing with more people at this great speed sailing spot, more the merrier as we have heaps of room and more potential.

Not me Pork, but I wish I was, Fitz I think will be. Yeah the face thing is a bit of a problem, I was at the Windwanders on the weekend and played the matching faces to forum names game. I thought name badges would help though a bit dorky. Or maybe photos on forum profiles. Anyway, have a good sail and one for me ....

Used to sail heaps at Elliot Heads 10 years ago but never at Burrum. If I recollect Burrum was between the Elliot and Hervey Bay?

Heading south for a week or 2 in March to do some sailing (wind obliging) and wondering if basing at Burrum is a better bet ....what is the sailing like?

In my opinion Elliot Heads is not as good as it was 10yrs ago and I have sailed there many times before. I believe Burrum is the best flat water sailing spot in Qld esp in the south easterly winds and I'm sure others will agree. Even at high tide it is good as it is just small chop in close unless you want to go out wide for some better waves. There are a few local sail boarders that are always keen for a sail and some that travel from else where if the wind and tides are right.

Burrum is on the south side of the Burrum River only about 20mins from Hervey Bay and has a caravan park right on the river. Let me know when you are there and we'll go for a blast, we are all keen to show off our special spots. I think Vando has the QLD speed record at Burrum set only a couple of weeks ago and it wasn't even a realy perfect day with tides and wind angle. It has potential to be as good as Sandy Point, except the water is well above freezing up here.

I dont Think that record will last long though great spot. I think i must have the record for the most gear breakages in one day up there as well
My arm still purple too.

I was at Elliot heads on Sunday and the channel is very narrow now 50 metres or less, hardly any water on low tide.

Just had a call from the guys at Burrum, the wind and tides are perfect. The speed run is good and they were out yesterday having good runs well over 30 knots. There will be at least 6 guys there this afternoon and I have booked out my diary in the pm for the rest of the week. Hope to see as many people there as possible, there's heaps of room on our course so come and see our special spot. You will be impressed

I've got 2 but I haven't set up the Nav GT11 yet. If you can get it to work you can use one of them. I'll be there after lunch, not sure if I will be at the boat ramp or Geoffs place so I will check both when I get there. Do you want a flater speed board to use as I have a couple of spares that are fast. Cheers

So long as the GT11 show max speed that's all I'm interested in for now.
I wouldn't mind having a go on a quick board, will see you there.
It will probably be best to launch at the boat ramp today to avoid the low tide walk.
Thanks

So Burrum sounds like the go instead of Elliot which I know has changed a lot since 1997.

Can you sail at Burrum on any tide? Are there any waves or half decent swell - I suspect the fetch is a lot less than up off Bargara say so maybe it is just big chop???

Years ago I sailed at Gattagers? Bay (near Hervey Bay) in a howling nor-wester. It was good - does anyone still go there
