Yep I am def in as well.
Well done Sean I was actually going to post something along these lines as well.
I was going to propose winter sailing out of mounts bay sailing club.
It really doesnt matter where we base our selves just so long as there are people that want
To race.
I know both mounts bay and the Perth dinghy clubs are very open and welcoming to new classes.
Mounts has the benefit of being a little more accessible to different wind directions.
Hot showers,BBQ,s, bar etc.
If every one would indicate their willingness here to this concept, then it will make it easier
As well as quicker to get things up and running.

I spoke to Andy briefly a couple of twighlights ago and mentioned that some of the formula boys (and girls?) might be keen to try some racing, and he said he'd be keen to run some racing if ya all wanna go down that path, have a word to him. PDSC is a great club too though, maybe it could be a joint effort over a number of clubs?

yeh i am currently a mbsc member and pretty good friends with andy and yes if this doesn't work out with pdsc, mbsc is our other option. anyway i am going to ask one more time for everyone's emails (will send out a round of PM's asking too) but i have started to put together some courses and if you want a say then you need to make sure i have your email to send out courses, maps and other info as i complete or receive it like NOR and SI documents for winter series

the wind can do strange things in freshy bay but the water is very flat, as for where to rig and so on it doesn't really matter but i would like everyone to be on the water before 1:30, what i will be doing is rigging at point walter east and sailing up to the yacht club by 12 so i can talk to some of the committee around there and see what they will probably do for the day. i am trying hard to squeeze more information out of rfbsc about how they will be running it, will let everyone on my email list know as soon as i get any more info

i highly doubt we get the 30 knots forecast but if we get 20 or so things will be quite exciting to say the least, no one's aloud to get cold feet and pull out (no pun intended )
so i expect to see at least the 9 people who have entered if not the full 13 who said they would be there should be awesome no matter what the conditions
but i think i might just pack the 7.0 as a backup if the 10.0 is too extreme would be interesting to see how a combo like that would perform 7.0 + formula board + 70cm fin
still haven't got the sailing instructions yet, will keep everyone posted

Why didn't we think of it earlier????
Plan FORMULA racing! Big boards and sails suited to light winds only,... it's bound to get windy!!

Well done Sean.

Bring on the wind!

Down in the low 20's by race time according to forecast now.
That would indicate 18 in real terms so you should be right. Unless yacht club cancel sailing

Don't be too disheartened - Once this passes we will probably be back to the 10-15 knot variable days.

I'm looking to start Formula racing, - have got an old board and now just need to get together a rig. Should be able to attend most events as I don't work away and I don't have many commitments to kid's sport any more.

I'll be going through the classifieds hunting for suitable secondhand sails and a mast, but if anyone has equipment they are thinking about upgrading, please let me know by PM and I'll possibly buy your cast-offs!

Cheers,
Mike

well we got a great turn out on a not so great looking forecast
but the skies cleared around lunch time and the wind came in and everything was looking great for some afternoon racing
however as we approached start time the clouds re appeared and the wind began to fade

never the less we started one race with everyone slightly confused (i probably had a hand in that ) i got a fantastic pin end start at full speed and hit the line on the gun, i looked back to see most not planing, i managed to plane for the whole of the first half of that upwind leg but then the wind faded just that little bit more and i was on and off the plane with everyone else (except for darryl who had wisely chosen the long board option pre race)

slowly the fleet made it through 2 upwinds and one downwind before the conditions got the better of us

thanks for the great turnout guys, a fleet of 9 was fantastic
and thanks to the the guys that remembered the refreshments
all up i'm very happy and pumped for some better wind for next time (2 weeks, start is at 10:00am)

what we spent most of the time doing

what we spent alot of the time doing

what we spent some of the time doing

waiting for the start while standing on the end of point walter sand bar

9 sailors, thats awesome. Looking at the startline photo - where youse are standing around, looks like you'd be the biggest fleet there. Including olympic classes.

Hi Scarrgo (and anyone else who can provide advice),

I've now got myself a Formula rig and board and will be looking to start racing once I've worked out how to sail it. Can you advise on what is required in terms of memberships / registrations to get racing, eg. the RFBYC winter series?

I'm guessing;
- Windsurfing WA membership (that gets me a sail number amongst other things?).
- Entry paid for RFBYC series.
- 3rd party insurance, - or does Windsurfing WA membership include this?
- any safety equipment requirements specified by RFBYC?
- anything else???

Many thanks,
Mike

you need to be a wwa member for the insurance and some other things and then technically you need a life jacket but as it's past the entry date for the winter series you don't really need one and as i said above you can't officially enter any more so just come down this sunday and have a go race starts at 10:00 am
please send me an PM with your email so i can catch you up with sailing instructions and keep you up to date with future racing
