Ok, this one is doing my head in, help me out.

I've just been kiting this season and a bit last. My background is snow boarding, surfing, bit of wake boarding, skating etc.

Here it is:

Why the phuck do Kiters wear tshirts and boardies over their wet suits and/or rashies??????

It seems totally mindless to me, as well as looking weird, and making it harder to move, and easier to get hooked up on your gear.

I'm sticking to wetty only, no matter what, but have been really wondering about this one.

Let's hear it.

i wear a rashie over my wetsuit cause its full of huge holes and my fat guts seep out.
So not to put my fellow kiters off i wear a rashie to deter them from seeing my ever incresing guiness/pie induced overflow.

as for fashion, well i have a nice pair of brown shoes that match my nice brown jacket. They were designed circa 1978. I think they're fashionable, cause whenever i wear them i always generate a number of jealous stares.
But when i have worn them kiting, they get all wet and soppy.
I cant stand that squidgy feeling of wet soppy brown shoes.

Too much $$$ to layer up with

ok, I'm guilty of this... I started wearing my boardies & T-shirt over my wetty to take the piss out of my brother in-law who was doing it at the start of the season... He said dont knock it till you try it ! ... So I did and I cant quite say why I still do... I feel sorta naked out in my wetty alone now ?

Yeah there's something about the skin tight wetsuit look that just doesn't appeal to me, When kiting you suffer more from wind chill & you don't need to be so sleek & have a skin tight wetty to get through the water cuz most of the time your above the water.

It's different when your surfing because a lot of the time your paddling & in the water & dont need the extra drag of clothing on top.

I think a bright shirt & boardies help you look less like an injured seal being draged around the water to any sharks, Especially if you have an all black wetsuit.

As a snowboarder would you wear skin tight clothes while snowboarding?
Or a nice big jacked & baggy pants?

It's just a personal preference thing, i guess we are trying to keep warm from the wind chill but also trying to maintain our own identity.

Who needs a wettie anyway? I wear a pair of boardies that came with a strap around the waist that I can tighten one handed and a rash vest. On the other hand, I have a little extra of that insulation which may help get me through winter without a wettie.

How about that.

It would seem that body dysmorphic disorder is alive and well in the kiting fraternity.

Next time I pull up at Woodies I guess there'll be skinny little kiting guys and girls vomiting in the bushes.

You guys who reckon you're hiding your genitals are full of it.

It remains a mystery. An anomoly of the fashion world.

maybe it is so we don't look like windsurfers.

You gotta admit skin tight suits look totally gay

Why do people put mags on cars?

It is usually always the oldies that can't relate to change.

I admit some people go way overboard, last year had a swiss guy with a bright red flame shirt and white pants

Looked like he was going clubbing.

WELL IFF YOU THINK ABOUT IT BEN DE JABBER IN ORDER TO LOOK GOOD IN YOUR SKIN TIGHT FULL STEAMER DURING SUMMER YOU MAY NEED TO GO ON A DIET OF PILLS AND SPEWING TO GET RID OF THE LUMPS AND BUMPIES.
OR ALTERNATIVELY, WEAR A PAIR OF BIG ASS BOARDIES (THE BAGGIER THE BETTER) AND A T-SHIRT AND FEEL COMFORTABLE.....
IF PEOPLE WANT OT SUIT UP N LOOK PRETTTY THEN WHO ARE YOU TO JUDGE???

Unless you're one of the pioneers of the sport, everyone has been influenced by the whole fashion thing in kiting Unless you're flyin a 2 liner and ridin a bigass directional you too are following fashion trends just not in the clothing sense. Whateva you do in the sport it should be your own vibe I change **** all the time and as long as I like it that's all that counts I gotta be honest I get influenced by fashion a bit - otherwise I'd be gettin around in some Big W Stubbies instead of boardshorts - they're both functional the stubbies just make you look like a retard

The bit that cracks me up is those guys on their wake boards who pull their boardies on over their wetties, and even funnier is during winter when they put them on over steamers with little black chicken legs hanging out below. Now if that isn't the quintessential fashion victim i don't know what is.

This old gem of a topic!! We have it every year, some geeza knocking peoples personal styles.

I too am guilty of the boardies over wetsuit thing, I wanna try and look good out on the water, just like when you go out for the night, you put on your best kit.

When you got long skinny legs like mine you can look pretty goofy in a tight wetsuit. Wait for winter then I get to bust out my long baggy pants!!!

Maybe Billabong will design a wetsuit with built-in boardshorts sown to the outside.

Fashion-victims are born everyday.

victims for ever

To be sure Boardshorts are great in summer it has to be said, but sadly the old velcro will give up the ghost sooner or later.

Happened to my Irish mate Scotty as he tracked his gear up wind on Cottesloe beach last year. Convinced all the chicks were staring at his fine, kiting honed torso, he sucked his gut in a little............then a little more..........they were still staring...... so he sucked it in all the way..........only then could he see that the bird had fallen from the nest..........yes his Manhood was on display...and it wasnt the warmest of days dont you know...............Sorry Scotty.

Geez, just the other day I uncovered an old CD with some footage from 2002 in Hawaii. I was riding Wipika Airblasts with a control bar of at least 75cm long, with a pair of full bindings on a LF Picklefork.

And sad enough to say and barely brave enough to admit, I was kiting in a pair of long Jet Pilots. I was such a kook back then, it's good to see that some things never change.

Boardies on the outside of the wetty, but only over the springy, sheeeeit, even I admit it looks dumb over a steamer.

Good winds

we use to wear bordies over out wetsuits when i use to sail, cause the non-slip surface on the sides of the boat chomped up the neopreme, so it was more for a function, not for looks.

i might try the t-shirt and boardies next time on the water, just so i am not one of those ppl who "knock it before they try it". but i think its strange, especially with a full-length wettie!

I thought boardys over wetties was a weird kite thing. Then I tried it a few times. Now I find it weird not to. It's strangely addictive.

Thanks to record numbers of blue jellys at Brighton, I'm now facing the choice of kitepants or a stinger suit (with boardies over) Both of them are pretty gay options.. but they are functional, and I'm sick of getting stung, so I'm going to give one of them a go.

/thorpy says: I taste fully gay.
