Some advice please,

I am keen to come out with your guys on the downwind run. I just haven't had to break through the surf before, have only been at brighton and lake cootharaba. So I need some advice.

To give you some idea of my capability, as I don't want babysitting, I am just above beginner, can boost a bit, can do a backflip, first trick I have tried, am comfortable on choppy stuff at brighton but have not got through the surf. I assume I could body drag through with my board if required and go from there on the outer. Have no intention of surfing the waves.

I run a SS TD 12 and a switchblade 16 - 85kg, 42cm board, looks like the 16m for Saturday.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Cheers

Surf is easy Viffer. If your doin backrolls you will be more then self sufficient. I only started riding a month ago, and on my third run was comfortably going in and out of 2-3ft swell. Its really basic, maintain a consistant speed and absorb the waves with your knees. If you happen to come off and a massive bomber is about to engulf you fly the kite high with power and it pulls you straight through the wave the lip of the wave, too easy! Another thing be careful and know your safety releases! if you crash your kite and a wave takes it then be ready to detach yourself to avoid ripping your kite or drowing yourself!

Ill be there on sat and hopefully you will too, should be awesome!

Absolutely fantastic to have these responses. Adam - would Slingshot buy us a beer when we get back at Coolum Surf Club? I think Mick can get us 30% off meals there?

Thanks echo,

I assume from your confidence that you have wakeboarded prior to your kiteboarding life.

Anyways happy to have a go and meet up with some of the crew. 15 clicks of fun is too much to ignore especially with some experienced hands around. The culture in this sport is beatiful.

Padi, after the run where are the drinks, at sunshine or coolum? I have a base at Tewantin so let us know the deal mate. Cheers

Yea dont worry viffer, this is my first downwinder in waves also, since we dont have to worry about riding upwind, it should be fun! I am a surf life saver too so hopefully i can get the surf club rescue boats out easy enuv if any of us get stuck lol. mick u got keys right ;)

As for transport, lets see how many we get, then can work out carpool tomorrow nite? Maybe some of us can meet at Sunshine (those closer to sunshine) then carpool down to Coolum. Mick is member at coolum surf club n can get us good discount i think (30% off food)? so i think drinks at coolum if no one objects?

Sounds sweet then.

I don't need the carpool as I am based in Tewantin and will get the missus to drop me at Coolum and pick me up from Sunshine. You have to love marriage.

Padi thanks for the info .. I am on 0402 125 331

GEEZE... i dunno, some fellas have all the luck. I have enough trouble getting out in the water in the first place.

Looks like it will be a good day swell wise and wind wise. Starting out small and gradually picking up as the day progresses...

Mick is suggesting 11am meet instead of 12 so we can sort the carpool out, send a couple of cars up to sunshine. So 11am at Coolum Surf Club it is unless someone cant make it that early?

Hey guys, does this include the local boys who do it every weekend. I'll round em up. Probably add another 4-5 to the count.
The forecast 15-25 knots. Judging by today's dismal prediction, I'd say 15 -20 max for sat ...see ya there. And to that guy kiting by himself at Sydney (Newport) (Visiting) how in hell did you handle the 25-35 knot gusts in 12degrees. Mate I brought the kites down, but the thought of slipping into a wetsuit sent my nuts up my arse for warmth.

For lunch afterwards, I have a good barbie that needs warming up, so for a cheaper option we can raid woolworths for snags and steaks and come to mine at coolum. I can spin the TV so its visable from the varandah so s1 bring a kitedvd.

We pulled the pin on the Pin and went to Shearwater instead.

Had an enjoyable afternoon watching a newbie do a one handed board off backroll, while looping the kite down over a windsurfers mast with the board attached to his wrist.

Paulio wasn't sure if he was going to claim the move as he didn't land it.

Jacobs Well or Woongoolga.

Check these spots out on your street directory.

Also try Google Earth. It will give you an overall view of the Pin and the surrounding waterways.

Hi Padi

I actually live on the water. So for me its just a matter of pressing the switch, jetski trailer rolls down the ramp and I am off.

If I take my cruiser for a weekend I leave from Sanctuary Cove where I normally keep the big boat moored. Its a bit big to get under some of the Gold Coast bridges at half tide or more.

The other guys normally leave from labrador boat ramp and head up to the pin.

Will give you a post next time we are heading up that way.
