True, my Carve 99 has that channel up front. Got my first 30 and alpha PB on that one,

I must have done 99 gybes where it was mildly powered and went around ok. This one is OCSLA


This one on 3 step ATLAS, it went around, but the other way. This surprised me because I'd ridden that one a lot and had no previous major unruly behaviour from it. Fangy fin 18.
Don't think I hit a berg or anything, was doing many lovely ones on Carbon Art all morning before this. The only difference that may have caused this, that I can come up with, was that it was a downwind run with a race sail, the other 99 were slower, tighter arcs I guess. And I'd had a 50k sesh already on CA, maybe I took that style into it. Usually I don't swap boards on a day.

He went out briefly. I believe he returned at the rate of about 36kts. A tad overcooked in the wicked westerly he said as he hastily swapped to smaller board for the session.
He does not get rattled, but I think his eyes might have been ever so slightly wider at the experience and is interested in more I think.

I've not done well with speed on Hyper at Budgy. A few knots slower than I would have been on Carbon Art I think.
Mitch did 40 on it different day so it can do it.
Home at Jimmy's beach with pointer in Hydro 155ltr 75w I did 23kts in light wind. I felt I'd struggle to get that out of the rest of my normal boards that day.
Still looking for a tester for OCSLA. Oh my a slalom event is coming to Jimmy's next weekend, must I be the crash test dummy!?

Perhaps I should take back my comment that step hulls will eat any modern slalom board now 😳
Or will they get there with further testing and modification? Sounds like Bruce plans to keep pushing so we'll see.

I'm not sure how or why the apple thing ended up in here. Strange couple days, Wind got smooshed by hazy sky but i'll never complain about carving Budgy butter and seeing the sky go under the board.
We know i only got Mitch on this one last day, he was way up the top overall. Still surprised me though as he was looking good this light wind day and me moslty not so much, only this one moment 🤭

Thanks Dylan. I'd say i can gybe better after that. Because i was doing V Slalom, if i did a good gybe, the motivation was there and try for another two.

If we do some research about the physics of planing hulls, then we see that they’ve been well and truly explained since before David Savitsky did his work. We then know that the physics of planing hulls show that a short, wide area of contact with the water is more efficient in terms of lift for drag, because drag drops by the square as width increases. We can see pretty easily that even if the board was only planing on the tiny patches at the back of each “sponson”, then in just about any chop the waves will be hitting the “tunnel” which will increase wetted surface friction.

I've done 700 kilometres of research on these McKee boards since he brought them July 11. Just sailing like I normally do. Mostly Hydro 155ltr comparing it to my other light wind board JP SLW 165ltr.
In light wind slop chop going 15-20kts I feel it might be riding on the sponsons and tunnel is clear. The nose can hit hard like other boards do but this happens rarely, as I feel the ability to steer it better than other boards, Thus avoiding nose hits, and giving a smooth sensation.
I think I can probably go faster on the Hyrdo than I can on SLW. I know for certain that I can gybe Hyrdo much better than SLW. Hyrdo is 75 wide vs SLW 92 wide. So maybe not the fairest test as they are quite different boards but it's what I've got to compare.

I've noticed Hyrdo planing below 13kts, perhaps as low as 11. That is early compared to my other boards.

Much more sailing distance is needed to say anything for sure.

I need friends with good sails for sale, as mine are toast and no wiggle will fix toast, so I'll go vertical wiggle my pole in a park and see what happens.

I tried enamal paint pen and clear, didn’t last. It was a cheap clear acrylic I think from memory.
it got more than messy, first go clear melted paint, and I had a zebra boom tail.

I set the downhaul , pull lightly on outhaul with my fingers in the eyelet and set the distance with about 2 cm gap. It’s a vibe thing.

We learn things when there is not much wind.
I'm not sure how I was doing it exactly, but this sounds like the go. Thanks. I can save my white paint pen for something else now.

Bringing your wind sport gear while travelling around Germany, Switzerland, Austria and Italy is like a Swiss tourist bringing their ski gear on their trip to Australia.

Upon reaching north coast Italy I felt this comment, yes, lots of places you are better off doing something else Europe has to offer which OZ does not. Those beaches were for swimming (as are SO many beaches over there). Lots of umbrellas and I was feeling way out of place as the only one with windsports gear among the throngs of people at Lignano Sabbiadoro. After sussing out where was allowed to sail I got out a few times for some decent sessions and met another winger.
Tried a Tuscany spot, Lake Bilancino. It was quite but a bit tricky getting to the water. Awesome to see all kinds of cool motorbikes railing around street corners of Mugello when there was a en event on.
Garda was sweet, a stormy week ment good north winds every morning and the place relatively quiet.
We'd borrowed a motorhome and had no dramas getting into a camper stop right at Torbole.
Walchansee in Germany was holiday time as hot AF, it was a drama to find parking near launch spot. Beautiful light north winds when there. Also some epic motorbike riding in the mountains there. Crew sending footpeg sparks around corners fun to watch and film.

I had ten sessions all up. I traveled underweight with NP Fly2 5.4 wing and Axis HPS 980, harness leashes tools etc. When arriving in Germany I made a post on a German wing foil Facebook page asking to buy a board. A member of the group made me a deal to buy back his Virus 85ltr mid length after 6 weeks. €950 and he bought back for 650. He lent me a 5.4mm steamer which I was very thankful for heading out for those epic Garda Pelèr 6am sessions when most the place is still sleeping. I put a hole in the board and he was cool about it so I gave him a scooter as bonus. And he gave me good German beer.

Hiring would have been hard for a few reasons so I'm glad I did it this way. It was as cheap as it's going to get and I had the freedom to sail whenever without long term hire stuff sitting around.
Getting around and grabbing hire gear at the spot on foot, scooter, or motorhome was a mission I was happy to avoid in the busy places.
It's all much busier than most of Oz.

So good to get out there and find out all water users there speak the same language as home, yeeeew! Yeeeha! Oi! All met with smiles sharing the stoke.
