I'm using '22s and 23's fwiw, both great sails. I like the luff material of the '22 over '23, gives even more range.

Blade. Haven't used a Gator in that size, but can't imagine it beats my Blade 4.5. If you downhaul it with plenty of loose leach, I wouldn't think any other sail is easier to control.

I'd stay away from roller bags when flying as those bags are considerably heavier so you'll loose another kg or 2.

Generally your choice will be limited by what's available if your in Oz.

Also, have you considered renting if available at the destination? I know nothing beats having your own gear, but traveling light is quite nice and the money spent on new bags might cover the first 2 or 3 days of rental.

Less material also means lighter. You'll probably find your JP wing board feel nice and light. A heavier board might last longer, or at least be a bit less sensitive to dings, but you might not enjoy the feeling so something to keep in mind.

Yup, depending on which query you put in Google, you'll either find resources that tell you it deters sharks, or others stating it will actually attract them (and put others at a heightened risk).

Anyway, you know my opinion now so honestly curious what others think as it's hard to find reliable info on these things.

The ones that reply here might say they work. The ones that got eaten can't reply here anymore 😉

Jokes aside, I think there is no evidence that these work, at least at the scale of human-wearable devices (manufacturers obviously want you to believe otherwise). It's probably also difficult to prove they don't work, so these can still be sold and I'm sceptical about these manufacterer's claims.

Can't answer your question as I'm not wearing these, so apologies for the spam. I'm sure someone will disagree with me. 🤣

Check their Facebook page, that's very active again. I believe a new website is on the way as well.

There's a video on Paul's channel with a short Jaeger interview the day after. He's meant to have a scan when back in WA.

Some good tips above but make sure you don't go too small. It'll get very frustrating. There's no point in trying a sub 100L board at this point. I think some people forget how tricky small boards can be when you're new to it. Go gradually, 115L+ now, then 100L+, those are already big steps.

Smaller is not better. A bigger board is more stable, planes earlier and gets your through lulls. You know when it's too big when your completely out of control in strong winds.

If I remember correctly, the video linked above said there are no shape changes in the newest version. Just some material changes.

Agree on the 120L freeride but it's never too early to get experience in the waves. Find a smaller fin and you can sail it at Coros as long as you stay on the inside. Get used to the swell and little waves are great to learn to jump on the way out.

What size sails are you using?

It's amazing what nature can do. Would be cool if someone with a drone can take a photo every month or so and turn it into a time-lapse. This area will change drastically over the next few years, so interested to see what happens next. Maybe we end up with a perfect wave 🤣

Re Stone size: bigger board, smaller sail seems to be the trend and from what I see, the larger sizes still work really well so in case of doubt, I'd lean towards the bigger size.

What's your weight?

Exactly, kiters out at the Pond so surely windsurfing should be possible. Gave it a crack with 3.1 but very challenging with the strong gusts, didn't last long.

Haha, I found out that "does it turn well" really depends on your skills. When I took my 2017 JP FSW 85 in the waves for the first time, I thought it wouldn't turn at all. It's a fast board with a flat rear section, really like it in strong-wind conditions, works well in swell. Since then, I've progressed my wave riding skills on real wave boards, and now I can turn the FSW perfectly fine. Surely, it's not as good as a wave board, but it works well in tiny waves or subpar conditions. That said, it shines in windy, open water blasting and jumping. I wouldn't use it for wave riding normally.

Not yet for me. On a desktop browser, it seems to work now and I'm landing on the last page and #lastpost. On mobile not though, it's just going to the start of the thread (first page, first post).

Cheers! See the purple scribble in my previous screenshot. I click/tap on the right where it says username/time of last post. Tried all the other places that I could possibly click, no difference. I'm not logged in all the time in case that makes a difference.

Noticed with the new site, when I click the username/time of last post, it doesn't scroll to the last page and post anymore. On the old site, it linked to the last post but now it just links to the first post on the first page. Circled the place below.

Would love to see a fix for this in case that didn't make it onto your list yet 😊

Yeah, control makes the difference. If you have a setup that is easier to control in the conditions (e.g. wave gear vs slalom), it might be faster. If you're not in control, you can't push as hard. Skills also matter a lot. Some sailors are fast on any kit.

The wave run up the river? Why are you sailing on a river? Like the Gorge?

Haha, I can see where you're coming from when looking at the poster, combined with the name. Per above, it's a normal wave break.

Not sure who done the poster, as they misspelled the name, missing a "a" (Margret vs Margaret). It was so painful to see that logo with the wrong name on the screen of the livestream and in other places. Wonder how that could have happened...

boots in straps. There is only one good fix for it.
sand down the grooves of your pads under the straps.

I would advise against that. Maybe find another type of boot if yours are too grippy

have you tried? or how can you advice against it?

I have not, as there's no need for it in my case. I think if you can't get in or out of the straps when wearing boots, it's because of the boots and not pads. Sanding the pads can't be undone, replacing boots is easy. Surely the pads might get a bit more slippery over time when using boots all the time, so sanding it makes it worse.

It might also affect resell value if that matters.

Most of the guys I sail will wear boots, and none of them have ever sanded their pads. What I meant to say is that it shouldn't be needed to have a good experience when wearing boots.

Anything can go fast in the right conditions or when it's really windy. I once took my quad wave board in 35+ knots winds, and it hit 29 kts speed without pushing too hard, although it was probably close to it's max speed due to the fins. I regularly use that board in a thruster setup (obviously with single back strap) and I could probably go over 30 kts if I'd have the guts. Gets quite choppy here.

I've been wearing boots for more than 15 years now as I kept injuring my feet without them.
First of all, they shouldn't get stuck so what you experience is not because of boots specifically, but your particular setup/combi.
What I noticed is some boots have straps to tighten them on the bit that goes in the foot straps. Cut them off if you can cleanly do so, or find boots without straps.

It's always a good idea to make your straps bigger so your feet can come out, but on freeride gear I have mine pretty tight with no issues at all. I'm using Prolimit boots for what it's worth. Been trying others over the years but some do really suck, particularly the ones with straps are dangerous for windsurfing imo.

I'd find the rental centres and pick those spots so you don't have to drag gear around and have the right gear (either fin or foil) for the conditions. It's probably worth the money and not even that expensive although long time since I've rented in Europe.
There might not be many rental options inland though so you can still bring some if you're really keen to sail in those locations.
Enjoy!
