One more thing. Beware when flying domestic, especially on Jetstar as they containerise on a lot of routes meaning there is length limit in regards to bags. For Jetstar the limit is usually 190cm.

What airline are you planning to fly? As a rule of thumb for non airline status passengers:
- all airlines have a 32kg weight limit for checked luggage (remember you boards, sails, wetsuit etc weight a lot more even when just damp)
- via the US most full service airlines include 2x32kgs in the ticket (except for Jetstar)
- some airlines only include one bag in the allowance make you pay extra for each additional bag.
- some airlines now have baggage length limitation on specific flights due to aircraft limitations

I would recommend you check on this before you make a booking. I have heard of people paying more at the airport for excess charges than they paid for the ticket. Also check on the rules for both inbound and outbound segments. I once had problems with British Airways trying to get my gear back to Europe. They had bizarre rule in the past where they would take boards to Australia but not reverse if you had a connecting flight to Central Europe out of London. I ended having to airfreight my gear back.

If you have to buy a board bag keep en eye on Seabreeze. I have bought a couple of really good bags there in the past. Be ware of the overall weight of the bags. I have two NP double board bags with wheel that are great but they weight 5.9kg each. I also have a Severne triple bag with no wheels which weighs less than 3kgs. That said the best bag I have is a two compartment bag from ProLimit which holds 1 board plus 1mast, 2 sails, 1 boom, extensions harness etc and still comes in under 32kg.

I would pack each bag to be no more than 30kgs to allow for water logging.

I look in the mirror and then look at their team riders developing and testing their wave gear and it's clear to me I'm not their target market. Most of their wave boards are developed and tested by guys riding boards between 75 and 88 litres. Last time I rode anything sub 95 liters was in my early 20s.

I had their 118 custom quad a few years ago but it was clearly designed as a float and ride board. Great for pure wave riding but not much else. It felt like the board was directed at lighter sailors looking for a super floaty ride.

Clearly their gear works extremely well for the target audience. I am just not game to drop nearly $5k on a board without testing it given my past experience.

Case in point re the live stream... you go to www.liveheats.com/events/490099 and the heat info there is completely different to what's published on the web site in a news post. On the YouTube channel there is no place holder or an upcoming event notification. The Fiji TV link is blocked for anyone outside of Fiji. The event schedule is buried in a post somewhere in the Facebook feed.

Not wanting to state the obvious but given you are trying to deliver maximum audience to your event sponsors a more thought out comms and marketing strategy for each event would do wonders. Dedicated event web site, comms plan for socials and youTube. They had this for the Maui event but I assume the marketing guys in Quatro / Goya managed that.

My wild guess is it will be on their YouTube channel: www.youtube.com/@world_wave_tour/WWT communication strategy is a bit lacking. Sometimes events have their own web site, sometimes they seem to have an event page on the PWA website and sometimes they are buried deep in the WWT web site. There is some random stuff on Instagram but you need to either go specifically to their Instagram page or hope the Instagram algorithm serves up the right content. And then there is a Facebook page which has the event times but no links.

If you are subscribed to the WWT YouTube channel you should get a notification of the live stream in your subscription page.

Would be helpful if they had a consistent way of communicating these events. But I guess in the age Instagram, TikTok and AI web pages have become an afterthought so you are left with either hoping the algorithm serves up the content or you have to chase the content in 5 different spots.

AI scrapers have gone nuts of late.

I thought Cloudflare had figured out how to block them.

FW or FSW boards differ significantly depending on size / volume. Some brands are more radical in that change than others but I believe they all a screwed towards the bigger sizes being more free ride oriented and the smaller sizes more wave focused.

I think it would be helpful for people to state what volume board they are referring to and what their weight / height is before making statements about boards not turning properly.

For example I have a 113L Pyro which I find the board is insane even on big waves and turns super tide plus I have managed to push the board to 35knt peaks fully loaded up. But I am also 6'4" and weigh 115kg+. I have had other people speak not so fondly of those boards but they also are more in the 70-80kg weight range.

Also, look at who the team riders are that test the boards during prototyping. If they are all in the sub 90kg range don't expect the board to work well if you are a heavier rider. They might but they might not.

That said in the past I have had JP FSW boards in different volumes and they have always been amongst the fastest boards. I had a Starboard (can't remember model /year) in a bigger size but it was clear it was blown up in computer and never properly tested because it was a dog of a board.
