'Vic-Maui Division 1 - on the breeze after the start' Vic-Maui -
Solid westerlies off Canada BC's Victoria waterfront made for a great start for Division 1 boats in the Vic-Maui Yacht Race. It's a 2308 nautical mile race, but each skipper and crew was eager to gain an early advantage on their competitors. David Sutcliffe's Beneteau 47.7 Kinetic tacked just across the line to stay near the shore on the way to Race Rocks. Pierre Cotes X-One Ton Delicate Balance chose to head out farther into the Juan de Fuca Strait, perhaps hoping to get lifted, but soon tacked back in towards shore.
