'Australian Wooden Boat Festival - a little competition never hurt' .

Hobart's Australian Wooden Boat Festival has blossomed into a top maritime event.

The Festival celebrates the strong maritime links Australia has with the sea, its early history and its current expertise in boat building. Staged on historic Sullivan's Cove waterfront docks, the scene is alive with maritime activity.

This includes an enormous collection of wooden boats of all descriptions, a big display of model boats, many permanent and temporary food outlets with an emphasis on fresh Tasmanian seafood, nautical skill demonstrations, live music and theatre, boat handling demonstrations, trade exhibitions, community groups and much more.

The next festival will be held on 11-14 February 2011, so there's only 40 weeks to go, and the organisation is looking for volunteers for the organising committee.

Planning is well underway, and negotiations are taking place for international feature vessels from Japan, Indonesia, New Zealand, New Caledonia and a special boat board display from Brest. Festival organisers are also talking to the Australian Sail Training Association and we look like having up to eight Tall Ships at the festival.

The opening of boat registrations has been delayed pending the installation of new software. They will now be opened in May and posted on the festival website; www.australianwoodenboatfestival.com.au
