New SA Fisheries patrol boat gets a name

SA Fisheries recently ran a competition for the Limestone Coast community to name new the 8.5 metre Niaid inflatable patrol boat which will be based in the local area around September.

The competition recieved over 100 entries from the local community, the majority of which came from students.

The winning name 'Canunda' was submitted by Josh Thomson, a Yr 10 student from Mt Gambier High. The new vessel will therefore be named the Fisheries Patrol Vessel Canunda.

The Canunda National Park is located on the Limestone Coast and it's believed Canunda comes from the Boandik (Aboriginal) word Coonunda, which is believed to mean 'water'.

An official launch will take place on delivery of the boat in September.
