Qld oil spill seafood tests safe so far
Queensland's Department of Primary Industries and Fisheries have released results from the first round of seafood samples taken from the Moreton Island oil-spill zone.
The tests analysed a small number of crabs and slimy mackerel and revealed no evidence of hydrocarbon contamination making them suitable for human consumption or as a source of bait for other species.
Forty-four new samples have been sent for testing to build a greater picture of possible contaminations. An initial focus is on bottom-dwelling and slow moving species given their inability to quickly move from the contaminated zone.
Due to the number of samples being tested the next round of results won't be available till next week.
