Just a question but something Ive been struggling with is when people say a kite doesnt turn that fast or has been slowed down a bit so its better for unhooking - I understand why that is, but quite often then people say that it is great for kiteloops or is a kitelooping machine - stuff like that. If its the turning speed has been reduced, how can it have improved for doing tight kiteloops? This not intended as a flame and maybe Im missing something, but reason I ask is because I started unhooking this year and want to do more this season, but really like looping the kite too, and trying to work out whether certain kites are going to be best for that. Any thoughts?
Hi O,
A really fast turning kite won't generate much pull when looping and is therefore easier to loop. It will loop higher in the wind window. You are less likely to get spanked in my experience.
A slower turning kite will loop in a bigger arc going deeper into the window and generating more sideways pull. Typically this will look better, be harder to pull off as you are going to land with more speed and takes bigger balls.
There is obviously a limit and if a kite is too big or really slow then looping won;t be any good. Hope this helps.
