Believe me all this talk is an absolute waste of time .
Just like a bow kite crashed in the water with tangled bridles, day light saving is dead in the water .
As I have said before, I predict it will be slaughtered in a referendum.
Just look at the history of referendum results .They much more often than not result in a negative result .People are reluctant to vote for change or don't care and vote NO .
Look at the referendum on having an Australian as our head of state (Who would want the head of another country as our head of state).
It failed because the government of the day was not in favour of it and had no intention of inspiring the people to change .
If you look back in history I believe it took a couple of attempts to even get the people to vote for a federation and create Australia .
A referendum for change will always fail unless the government of the day gets wholeheartedly behind it and inspires people to vote affirmative.
This wont happen.

One thing that no one has mentioned here and is probably the most important point; saving the environment by reducing green house gases, by having an hour of extra sunlight in the evening we are reducing the amount of electricity we use during the peak usage period!

I wouldn't know either way, but you can bet that anti-DS folk would argue that the extra hour of lighting required without DS is more than offset by the fact that the house is an hour closer to a cool time of day when people arrive home (so less load increase from air cons).

BTW - I am all for daylight saving!!

It looks like It`s moon kiting for me next year. Or is their some strange statistic why I shouldn`t do that aswell?

You don't know the power of the Dark Side phrase-Vader. The last referendum on Dark Side Slaving found 99 out of the 100 remaining Jedis voted "No". I'll never turn to the Dark Side!

Interesting you should bring up federation .WA almost guzumped the whole thing and held out to the last moment .Apparently they weren't happy with the other colonies giving indiginous people some kind of limited rights .WA prefered the status quo .
Oh well still resistant to change

I agree. It wont get up, regardless of what ppl think here. The real question to be answered is how long before they ask us again??

After 3 "NO" votes in the last 3 referendums on this subject, Premier Carmen Lawrence assured us it would be the last time the subject was visited. HA! This 3 year trial is now the 4th time the question has been put. It costs 10s of millions of WA taxpayers dollars each time to have a referendum, this one was introduce by a Premier who didnt even believe in it and is now out of office, and is a tactic orchestrated by Eastern States insurgents and sympathisers into conditioning us to getting used to Daylight Saving as if it was a fait accompli.

Just what is it about the word "NO" those people dont understand

Sorry Sangroper but there will be more referendums. Just like political elections we have every 4 years....Why??

Because sometimes we get it wrong!!!

Its a very good idea to have these referendums in the future because once the all the dried out, ignorant, old farts & baby boomers (yes, the generations that essentially blew it for the planet!!) die out and the younger generations (yes, the generations now left responsible to try undo the boomer damage!!) are in majority the Day Light Savings "YES" vote in WA will also be a majority.

In face to face discussion I am yet to meet someone who doesnt support DLS here in WA...now thats a preview of future results.

DLS will eventually be a fixture for the WA summer, and prior there will be more proactive discussion, more disapointment displayed when we miss out, eventually the message will get through...and there will also be younger politicians ... just a shame we have to wait for it while ignorance rules in WA.

WAKE UP!! ...Now everyone go have a little chat with your parents & grannies!

which it was why it was introduced for a time in WW 1 and ww2 (guess which state kicked up a stink and was excluded?)here's an inteteresting link http://www.aph.gov.au/LIBRARY/Pubs/rn/2006-07/07rn13.pdf

interesting that each referendum has actually been quite close in WA and QLD

In October 2008, Broome wound their clocks back a full hour even though the amount of available extra daylight was only 40 minutes (ie 12h40m total daylight). So they experience an abberration to their lifestyle for which the costs outweigh the benefits. The situation gets worse as you go further north until you reach the Equator where there is no extra daylight to be "saved" at any time during summer.

Dude, there is no EXTRA daylight! Its the same regardless of DLS. Surely you must be pulling the p1ss if you believe that there is more daylight. Do you think the rotation of the earth slows down a bit cos we had a referendum?

And I love it when the anti-DLS mob claim their body clocks are out. Current Affairs programs (anti-DLS) are big proponents of this rubbish. Have you ever flown interstate or overseas? I'm guessing no... its too different from Dullsville.
