I think boating should be banned at Botany Bay. It's just too dangerous and they add too much pollution

It was awesome to watch the front come through, up to 50 knots came through, from a clear blue sky, with no warning.
A typical southerly buster. We took a bunch of students over to watch it, then cancelled their lessons!

There were a heap of boats in trouble, a few read it early and ran for cover, lots of other inexperienced punters had a boatmare.

I could not beleive that some people went out, they were warned, and asked to reconsider, but ignored the advice of locals.
It was dangerously gusty all afternoon, and a runaway kite or someone who ditched it could have ended up at the airport. Definitely a couple of galahs short of a full deck.
I know who one of them was.

Maybe a topic for the meeting??

yep - today was too windy for this galah

Wanda looked like hard work today. Lots of poleboarders getting axed in the sloppy and more-onshore-than-you-would want winds. A half dozen kiters early pretty much just trying to survive most of the time.

2 guys got on later and were tearing up up for ages, after the entire 9m bow crew all got blown off the water. One of those was a kook on a c kite too, but it looked freaking small - when will he learn?!?!

But the kite kook of the day award is shared by the 2 guys who tried to launch kites that were WAY to big for the conditions at wanda - both c's as well - one was an 8 and the other was a 10 maybe. As if they were EVER going to last in the peak of all that mess today. Here's a hit kiddies, when the 90kg experienced kiters with 9m bows come off the water that shouls be a hit that it's FREAKING WINDY! (as if you needed that tip after being sandblasted on your walk down to the beach)

Anyone got photos to post of the wrecked boat? At least it's a change to wrecked kites and kiters on the rocks at dolls...

Youre a goner Galah, all we have to do is work out which Galah at wanda was not avting like a galah and we have you nailed.

Dave O'neill (9M Ozone Instinct) and Florian Reinhold (9M Cab CB2, yellow) from Kitepower, said they had an epic session over there.

The boat carnage on the bay was the worst I've seen, those boats should be banned.

Galah

Yes that was myself and a friend kiteing on Sunday at Wanda.

We each have 4 years kiteing experience and 20 and 10 years windsurfing experience, including being a member of the National Team .

We use 'C' kites because we don't like bows. Yes I bought bows and sold them again.

One of us kited at a time while the other windsurfed, we had leashes etc, were down wind of everyone and know our ability. If anything had happened we would have gone onto the sand dunes.

If you had a problem why did you not approach us to discuss, as opposed to seeking the protection of a web site?

Alternatively we could be someone perhaps like yourself who kites at Dolls Point, where if anything goes wrong in any conditions you will end up either in someone's house or at the airport.

Weigh up the risks before opening your mouth, I know which situation is less likely to get kitesurfing banned or hurt someone.

A reason for the kitesurfing club potentially failing is lack of 'buy in' from people like us, because of comments from people like you.

Qman - Ummm ok sure. You think you know where I kite now. Congratulations.

If you think a 8m C kite is sensible for wind that was very bullety and OBVIOUSLY gusting into the high 30 somethings then no matter what anyone says to you then you are not going to listen. I saw other kiters talking to you. hell one of them could have been me. One of you needed to be held down while lauching and did the levitating man trick until you landed a few seconds later - if that isnt a hint that your gear is inappropriate then buddy you are on your own... or were you the guy who took one or two runs out, one or two runs in and then landed?

Granted you are better off doing this type of stuff at Wanda on a quiet day rather than at dolls, but I would not be suprised to see a ban at either place "migrate" pretty quickly to the other spot for a number of reasons - think about it for a while... If dolls get banned where will the punters go for a kite?

If you think my buy in is limited to this forum then you are wrong buddy, remeber you dont know if I was the one saying that you should not have gone out...

Bottom line is - Being stupid is being stupid no matter where you do it.

PS: I dont care that you dont like bows - good for you. At least you had a leash on and were downwind of the rest of the guys out I guess...

Pfft - every other kiter these days rides a 9m yellow cab bow. It's getting too hard to work out who's who on the water, especially in surf. We need license numbers on our kites so we know who to steer clear of!

G’day Quinton,
There’s nothing quite like getting publicly slammed, by someone who insists on staying anonymous, is there?
Being called a “kook” by a Galah… that’s gotta sting too!

Galah,
You are nearly up to 20 pages now, Are you ever going to own up to your real name?

There we were waiting patiently for the sea breeze to kick in , a call from Danza I don't think it will happen boys so I won't come over .
Thanks Danza In the words of the Ever ready battery man (Big CJP) it had to be one of the 5 best sessions of all time . Six kiters in KKK countries secret spot with butter smooth water and 20 knots from the nor east.
Once again thanks for the sacrifice Danza.
Wrong again Al the Great Galah is amongst us but it is Not who you think it is .

Ahh ricardo or should I say HUGENUTS glad to hear it came in for you, and even better glad to hear it was one of better sessions at KKK country , but I must tell you I was extremely happy laying down watching a dvd with the air conditioner pumping a cool 22 degrees knowing that on Sunday I will be heading to Seven Mile Beach down South for a truly epic session in a 20 to 30 knot SSE and even better CJP might be making a guest appearance down south with the boys ahh it does not get much better than that.

Big Kev George mentioned you were keen on coming , give Col a ring I will be meeting George at Heathcote McDonalds at 8.00 am Sunday Morning and we plan on kiting the Northern end of the beach.

And rumour has it that he runs out of fours in January and so automatically becomes a member of the old farts club by moving into the cruisey 50's.

lol @ the KKK retirement village and especially the latest inductee to the hall of age. old farts indeed!

No dispute about the "noisy" CJP though, although I have found he squarks excessively when airbourne!

Seriously though - I'm worried about the local "authorities" in KKK land shutting down one of our beaches! What's worst is that Dolls was not the first spot on our great bay to get a kite ban slapped on it. Sad really. We might have to start ignoring the ban and see what happens... If it's good for the goose then it's good for the galah (and friends)...

Sunflower seed beach? Never heard it called that, but any beach with that name MUST be mine as I am a galah after all.

I'm talking about the beach that usually has a well stacked peanut gallery of (by thier own admission) old dudes, always willing to lend advice with such classics as "kook", "pull harder", "that has to hurt", and "do something stupid", and my personal favourite "ha ha"? Apparently there is a noisy compressor there for pumping up kites, but you know what, I have never heard it, least of all in 25 knots of wind...

Every time I have been to that spot the kiters were always well behaved towards the local non-kiters, and the local kiters get "preferential treatment". Nothing wrong with that either as it is thier local.

The local "authorities" are being a tad unreasonable at the moment though, and we challenge thier wrath at our own peril!

PS: w00tage! 20 pages! lol
