There is a chance I might have an opportunity to move to Australia, to either Brisbane or Melbourne. And since I'm addicted to kiteboarding I figured that would base my decision on where the best kiting would be. Anyone have some comments and what the best choice would be, for wind and overall living conditions.
Do you want to freeze your nuts off all year round, fight the crowds and have limited places to kite?
OR
Only have to wear a wetsuit for 3 months of the year, lots of girls in Bikinis, and have 100's of KM's of kiteable beaches between the Sunshine Coast and gold coast including 3 world class river mouths.

But there's a strange South African chap in Melbourne who gets around with his kiting gear on a scooter and wears a home-made Redbull helmet. Might want to watch out for him, I've heard he's a bit dodgy...
check graphs - bris perth and melb... I live in Perth and it rocks I kited here for 4 years now... but am moving to melbourne shortly and I am really gonna miss the kiting in summer... but its closer to hawaii :)
dont go to qld, too many people there already, some half naked, some more so. all that sun and warm water will get to you. head to melb, shiver your ar$e off. [}:)]
Ive lived in both (grew up in Brisbane). Basically Melbourne is colder most of the time (although over summer has been unreal here while its been pissing down in Queensland) but you can live 5 mins from kite spots on the bay and its windier. Brisbane warmer - great in winter, less wind but have to drive there and back to go kiting so can be tough after work if you live in Brisbane itself.
Just been back to Perth and Melbourne for a month from London.
Shame you aren't going to Perth... its amazing for wind, pity I only have 12m and 15m kites and everyone seems to ride 10.5m and below there. I had to pack up as everyone else was just warming up. Some of the moves the guys pull at Woodies are mindblowing!
Melbourne is great, I spent most of my time at St Kilda. I know people will cry shame but Australia's definition of busy comes nowhere near Hayling Island near Portsmouth or Beauduc near Marseilles in France.
If you are coming from a big city then Brisbane is going to be a cultural adjustment (As is Perth) but Melbourne has a lot of everything because you can't go kiting everyday!!! (As much as you we all want to). It gets hot but not humid in the summer and if I remember rightly it was better weather in Melbourne in January than almost everywhere else in Australia.
If you finish work at 5pm you can be up and riding by 530 in Melbourne, then walk over the esplanade to Fitzroy St for a couple of beers and excellent food at The Pelican.
Been back in London a week and I'm already missing the convenience :-( not to mention the fact its winter here.
Go to Brisbane if you want **** coffee, **** food, **** service, bogans and bong smokin theives. The Summer is muggy and rainy. The only good weather they get is there winter which is still not as good as melbourne's summer. OH yearh there cops act like robots and dont use there common sense. We Melbournians only send our old people up there so they can help bend the bananas. Plus they have no water and will be drinking there own piss soon.
I hear Melbourne is the go! No good beaches in Queensland, no wind, sharks, no car parks, people aren't friendly, jellyfish, no water, bad roads, crocodiles, dogy old blokes in buggy smuglers, no surf, stingrays yeh I hear Melbourne is the go!
I won't support Brisbane because their sporting sides are racist. A jewish mate of mine wasn't allowed to join one of the supporters clubs because he was circumcised...
...apparently you have to be a complete prick to be a Queensland supporter
