This post is for UBERS
I agree with Not on Board - no need to bag blokes who have a genuine concern about sharks.
Even though we see a lot more of them up North than the Southerners, it doesn't mean we don't respect the fact that the water is the sharks domain - I mean - they have been around for millions of years and we are really the very late comers.
I don't go into the water mindless of them ,I know that just below me some pretty big flesh eaters are swimming around looking for something to eat. BUT I dont let that stop me having a great time.

And as for your name , Not on Board is right. You are just trying to ride on the same horse as the REAL UBERS. Ive been reading his posts for a while and as far as I can see he has a genuine fear of sharks - and actually I take my hat off to him - I mean - to be that concerned about sharks yet continue to enter the water with the possibility - yes I know - remote it is - but with the possibility of being eaten by the big one . He obviously has plenty of courage.
YOU should really cut blokes who are scared of sharks some slack and just enjoy your kiting.

Well basically South Australia isn't half as bad as it is hyped out to be. I mean theres been heaps of attacks recently, two fatalities of adealiade beaches but really i don't think its that bad. I have personally never have had a confirmed sighting and i only know one person who has seen one and apparently was chased.

This aside there are definately places i would be very cautious about going out.
-Kangaroo Island
-Port Lincoln
-Murray Mouth (heaps of sightings there)
or anywhere in the great australian bight like
-cactus

but every state has got its places that are definatley risky

I would be more worried kiting in western australia.
Seems like in general rivers are really bad spots to be in the water and places with tuna farming our seal colonies.

The whole adelaide coastline is pretty good with some flat water spots. In summer we get good 18-23knot seabreezes for weeks on end. But you can kite pretty much anywhere in adelaide besides some areas down south but im not going to give away the good spots there all mine

Then theres some waves up the mid coast and you can ite there if you can be bothered driving. I've heard the murry mouth is good besides its sharkiness. Theres also Boggy Lake if you can be bothered driving for ages, its sorta like Lake Hatteras except probably a bit crapper. Theres sposed to be good spots down at yorkes but i wouldnt step foot in water there, physco.

For starters not on board if ubers was taken I would not be able to use it, the shark freak uses uber.Sharks are a part of the ocean they have been living their for thousands of years get over it and accept it. Im totally sick of the shark freak bringing up these stories of sharks. This is a kite forum about kiteboarding not sharks, if he is that fascinated with sharks he should go put all his posts on a shark forum.

Ubers, you've only got to look at the enormous support for "Uber"'s posts to see there is plenty of interest in the thread. It has after all got the 2nd highest volume of hits of all time.

I agree with the others, you would probably be better using a different handle name unless your deliberately trying to create ambiguity with Uber's identity.

Just back from a trip up to Cooktown. Travelled up the coast from Cape Tribulation along the coast. Stopped at some terrific spots but must say Cooktown is a verrry windy place. Went out on a trip with Rangers. Crocs and sharks everywhere. Definitely not a place to kite for those concerned about death by shark or croc attack. Rangers told me a story about four blokes who took a small boat 6 miles out for a bit of fishing. They came back with an almighty hole in the stern caused by a croc that had taken a fish bait then lunged up onto the boat. Showed me photos the blokes took of the croc. It was very big .
Stinger time up there now but would be a great winter kite but only if your happy to swim with the big ones.
Got un update on the Tiger shark at Noosa when I got back. It seems 2 more sightings near the rivermouth have been made by locals. Looks like an interesting season is ahead of us.

There is a HUGE shark danger when you are kiting !

The motion of the board across the waters surface is picked up by the sharks sonar.

The biggest danger is to "wakestyle" kiters !

Their constant crashes REALLY attract sharks with the vibrations !

Anyone watch the doco on 60 minutes about those illegal indonesian fisherman killing all our sharks.Very cruel indeed , chopping of their fins and then tossing them back in the water, what a way to die.

A marine biologist then did a dive where they were doing alot of illegal fishing and basically found no sharks.UBER maybe you should move up their and kite as the shark population is getting wiped out completely.

What a tragedy, and theirs not much we can do about it as their is to many of them.

Windchaser very interesting story indeed.Heard alot of good things about a place called ALBA somewhere along that northern coastline.

Did you kite anywhere near their in your travels, every kiter thats been there raves about it.

Am thinking of planinig a kiting trip up their , but not sure where it is and when it is possible to kite there.Would you recomend wearing a shark leash or just not going at all.

Sharks do worry me a little but not enough to keep me out of the water.

Actually waveslave, there has been an attack on a kiter. It was in South Africa. I believe UBER has talked about it in the past.
Uber do you recall the information.

Half the posts in this thread belong in ubers "shark stories" thread. We've been there before. Some of you are scared sh!tless, some of you like killin em, some of you, me included, respect sharks and accept the risk of playing in their kingdom. Compared to most other water sports, kiting has a pretty minor risk of shark attack, unless you suck or are unlucky enough to get stuck out at sea (like uber). Get over it. You will die from heart disease, lung cancer, car crash or some other dull and unpleasant way to go. Lofting is what's killing most kiters. Sharks haven't killed any. I liked the post from the guy who was more worried about whales breaching than sharks.
To the scared- you are pussies, afraid of the dark.
To the killers- you are wimps, trying to prove how tough you are
To the respectful- respect.

All you kiters that are scared of sharks while kiting , why dont you all go and buy the crossbows, I heard they jump really big and the hangtime is amazing and they have got execellent depower, thats about all they do.

So basically you will be out of the water more than in the water.
Or just dont go in the water at all.

I heard about someone get kocked off their board in sout africa 2.

This is the version i know and this is likely to be pretty bull****.

Doing a downwinder, shark breaks his boards. Afterwards goes out and kills it.

Steve someone i think...

Uber,
You are the resident forum shark dude. (A dubious honour).
Did you know this sharkie fact ?

In Nicaragua, there is a fresh water lake called Lake Nicaragua.
It is the largest fresh water lake in South America.

In this lake live reproducing fresh water sharks.
Man-eaters.

Why am I of all people getting sucked into this fear-mongering thread ?

It's not necessarily fearmongering, 'slave, it's educational. David Attenborough and all that. Fresh water sharks eh?
Did you know the Grey Nurse bears live young. The baby sharks all develop in the womb, and eat each other until only one is left!

The South African kiter attack seems to be something to do with a mako, but I haven't found any solid info.

Pussies, better stay out of the water, salt or fresh, until you've all got your ZAPPERS.

The south african shark attack story seems to be the ONLY story in the many threads exactly the same as this one and "shark stories" in the many kite forums around the world.

Here goes-

Alwin, from Durban got attacked by a female 3m Mako shark off Salt Rock (right near Ballito) while riding about 3 years ago. It came back for a second go, but he rammed the board in its mouth, jumped back on and carried on racing. Madman. Sharks board caught the shark that day in the nets, and matched the bite mark and broken teeth to declare it the same shark (the jaw now hangs in his lounge).

Alwin 1 : Shark 0

Live in fear. You are next. Buy a ZAPPER today.

But this is still probably the most interesting thread happening at the mo', bloody gay baiting or industrial relations! I'll talk sharks any day.

Well it worked again. Another session with the zapper and I wasn't eaten. I also heard there was someone else around wearing one. Better get one before they become fashionable.
