Katani are running a downwind race from Ricketts Point to Katani (West Beach, St Kilda) on a Sunday in late Nov/early Dec.

* Entry is free but you must be registered.
* $250 store voucher for the winner!
* 2 wave runners following the race in support.
* BBQ and refreshments at the finish line.

Register your email address and mobile at [email protected] and we will give you notice when conditions look good for the event to run. We are planning to wait for 20 - 25 knots.

Who is the fastest in the bay?

This weekend looks like solid wind but due to many local kiters heading up to the Mambo comp this weekend the Katani race will look to run in December. We have had lots of interest so please register at: [email protected] so we can make sure you are notified when we roll.

its tough to make the call a few days out but at this stage we think sat is NW and Sun is more West. We will have a fun day when we run but have decided this weekend to go on hold and will aim for next weekend.

With the Vic titles comp running this weekend and another dodgy forecast we are going to postpone again... we will now look to run in January. Surely the wind will be solid then.

It has been a very tough call to make this week but we have decided to wait until next weekend 28/29th given the Easterly flow forecast this weekend. Since we have waited this long we want to score good conditions - and so in saying that this weekend will probably be smokin!

The Katani downwind race is GO for this Sunday!!

After a long waiting period we have made the call to run this Sunday and with a hot day and seabreeze forecast we are confident of scoring the 20 knots required.

The race is set to start at 4pm (subject to wind) at Ricketts Point.
We will launch on the right hand side of Ricketts (city side).
Competitors will be given a free Katani T-shirt to wear for the race before the start. The race ends at Katani in St Kilda.

There will be two wave runners following the pack in support so dont feel like you need to be the best kiter to join in. A BBQ and refreshments will be waiting at the finish.

Please aim to meet at Ricketts at 3:30pm this Sunday.

In the event the wind doesnt kick up enough to run we will update this post - but surely we are due for a solid Sunday seebreeze!

Should those of us who registered back in October expect confirmation that it will run on Sunday, or do we just turn up mid arvo (or watch this space)?

Unfortunately the updated forecast for the weekend has forced us to go on hold again and wait for another weekend to hold the Katani Downwind Race. We are still very keen to run the event and hope to score a good weekend soon. With the wave nationals next weekend and St Kilda festival after that we will aim for the second half of Feb.

Forecast for Sunday
Winds: Northerly 5 to 10 knots tending north to northwesterly 10 to 15 knots during the morning then tending west to southwesterly up to 10 knots later in the evening.
