We headed for St Kilda when the solid southerly change hit rickets after 6pm Sunday. We got about half of the 18km run when the wind eased. This caused lots of kite swooping for the second half of the race so no records fell this week. We look forward to doing it again.

I was about 40m from St kilda kite beach shore inside the breaker wall when the wind totally stopped, I was 2nd behind the Katani owner who was just in front. Easily swimmable.
I was pretty excited as i thought I'd won. Apparently there will be a 'rematch'. so looking forward to that.

Having spent the entire day watching the wind readings, it got to 4pm and i made my call of 'not today'. Good to see a few of you decided to head out when the change did come through, but very glad to hear everyone managed to get back in safely when the wind died.

I'll be keen for the downwinder v1.1 when the forecast improves.

wooahh ........no prizes thats a bit rough....

I was not part of it but for the guys that turned up there should be prizes afterall Katani started the race; was it declared abandoned .....no !!!;

I saw 4 kites down at the st kilda end being towed in by the jetskiier.... so the blokes that made the effort supported the event in the face of several postponements etc..... deserve their prizes. If i was you guys &x28; Katani &x29; I would be supporting the blokes that supported your event, seems like marketing sense to me.

That is all.

What more do you guys want,

Free T shirt, Free BBq and Free beers.
No one was bitching on the day.

Two things lie in fact here, one, the first person to step foot on the beach was James Weight. whether he is a partner of Katani makes no difference. he swam to the beach. Salt However was brought in by jet ski not under his own means or power.

Every one Bar one was provided with a free katani t-shirt to wear whilst on the downwinder, well one individual declined the t-shirt and the wearing of it, thus automatically fore fitting their win or prizes any how. they are the rules in any race or competition.

Funnily the ones who are bitching are the ones who didn't take part.
Get a Life guys seriously

So what the race started strong and so what that the wind died, all on the down winder had fun, we were all safe the jetski's did a great job of scooping people up.
had a lot of laughs and beers were had after.

I will Express that these are my personal Views and not those of Katani or it's Partners

We just thought it would be fun to run it again soon in better wind and then award prizes. All who took apart agreed at the time. Nothing more to it!

That's fine and clears things up !

@kitesurfjim , Chill ...I don't think anyone has an issue with James being awarded 1st ( his relationship with Katani is irelevant, he competed under the same conditions as everyone else )

I was on my way back from a surf at gunamatta and saw everyone starting at Ricketts Pt, I then pulled into St kilda to have a chat with a few mates and was standing on the sandbank when I saw the blokes go down just off the break wall.... Pretty decent effort in trying conditions.. I'm sure they had to work their kites hard for the last 1-2km , in my book they deserved their prizes

if the issue was discussed and a rematch agreed to ...thats fair and a better outcome anyway !

I had intended to participate ( see earlier post ) but didn't make it because I didn't think the wind would come in and went surfing( but it did ) and I appreciate the fact Katani put the race on in the first place ( and hope there will be more )

I apologise if my comments seemed non appreciative and JW post clarified the whole issue

Potter nice kinda apology, 100 points to Griffindor.
I was the Last kiter at the Break water, White kite, so i too was in the comp and performing a not so model deep water pack down, bit hard when being stung to bollox by jellies.
I am chilled mate, just narks me when tools jump on the back of something giving it their 5 cents worth when they weren't even involved in the race or organising of it.
more so they are too friggin lazy to do something for themselves yet when some does organise something all they do is bitch and moan.

Personally it was a great experience and a great laugh hope we get to do a few more before the seasons out.
and get a bigger crew too.
We learnt a fair bit on this one and will make some changes for future events.

Now wheres the bloody wind???

I think those who were part of the race on that Sunday were stoked to be out on the water with a bunch of good blokes - yes Weighty won the race but he was the better rider on the day. Look forward to the rematch so I can get my hands on that cash prize next time round in some better conditions. Don't really see what all the fuss it about?

Hi, its been ages with no rematch, can i please win the cash prize?
The guy on jet ski offered me a ride (40m from shore), initially i delcined cos i knew i could swim in, he said "mate you've won, ur miles ahead".

I think it fair i win the prize, regardless of wind conditions.
