so would you agree then that vandalizing peoples boats and contacting organisations they work for in their professional life to disparage their charatcer should be considered as unacceptable behaviour?

wasn't aware of the vandalizing bit till today but im sure all the other stuff that happened n the last 12 months has had a very negative result on club sailing in general in se QLD .the other clubs have benefitted as many of the other boats now sailing there but I think the overall result of big egos is a huge negative
on a lighter point we have a classic race this weekend from mud to straddie and no one cares who wins ,no club runs it, drinks on the beach afterwards with dingy racing no sailing politics much more fun

And as this has absolutely zero to do with me aside from being used as a pawn in some ego driven bunfight, I couldn't agree more.

so the start boat calls ocs at 15 sec after the start
a name sailor is ocs
he says should have called ocs in 5 sec
start boat delay means I should have redress because I did not think I was over the line and did not go back when ocs was called at 15 sec
jury give him redress
so now responsibility for your ocs is a start boat problem

Heres a contributing factor. Watch this interview of the skippers of the big 5 boats in this years Sydney to Hobart. Those who "set the example". Its hard to find any enthusiasm or spirit of fun among them and the skipper on right is openly rude and arrogant and complains about being there.

To me, it looked more like a scripted reality TV show. There was "drama" with the obviously media trained nice guy versus the bad guy on the right. It would make for boring TV if they all come across as nice guys.

Certainly agree with the small boat numbers collapse symptom. Albeit must say that Ch7's S2H start coverage this year appeared to be a lot better than in the past, giving good air time to the Traditional 30 and Jarkan 925. So there seems to be evidence of listening there, which is getting less common these days..........

Maybe. There nothing wrong with the idea. It would be a pain though. The race committee then has to draft new rules and get them voted in and signed then distributed. Assign a dedicated phone number. Make allowances for no connection, identification of calls...etc More red tape. I dont know if sat phones are mandatory, if not they would then need to make a rule that all boats carry them.

Anyway, in the world of physics smoke has never been known to effect HF radio signals to my knowledge. VHF, UHF maybe a little. And the satphone he wants to use is UHF! Fire can by ionizing the air. The sun has a enormously bigger effect and theres no mention of that.

Nailed it.
It's a one to one device with zero broadcast capability.
Pretty useless as a first line of defence in an emergency.
Agree position skeds are different, we use sat phones or vhf for skeds in all the coastal offshore races now, and have done for a few years.
Using a satphone we just text it, boat name, lat/long, and radio sked id. You then receive a confirmation text in return.
