Sup is still an oddity where we paddle and just about everyone just stops and stares when we paddle out - too funny - obviously get zero grief cos nobody has a damn clue what we are doing. Pretty much every time we hit the beach we end up putting some curious stranger and/or their kids on the boards before we go home so we are spreading the love very gently and trying to introduce it in a 100% positive way.

At my local break down here it's pretty good in terms of SUP acceptance, but I suspect this has alot to do with there almost always being quite a few SUPers out and almost all of them are very competent.
That said however, if I surf elsewhere down here, I'm usually the only SUPer out and you have to put your game face on as you know your gonna cop some stink eye. Like others have said though, once they see that you know what you are doing and don't hog waves, the vibe changes and you can relax a little. I would also add that I'm not a great believer in sitting on the shoulder and only getting the scraps that the surfers don't want. If you are good enough and not reckless in how you surf, there should be no reason why you can't mix it with the surfers in the lineup.

Yep its a new year amazing

So,time has moved on since SUP entered the the arena.

My question is, have things settled down at your local as far as stink eye and all that BS?

Ha ha, getting so much worse for everybody! Its a bloody war zone out there!

The paddle is my friend in the graveyard Church of the psycho SUP zombie killer

I just got back from Noosa in all the time I was out I got two adverse comments, one from a chick saying she was glad she didnt SUP anymore, I think my reply was something like 'Im really glad you dont either' and another set of terse words with a longboarder that snaked me on takeoff and then got cranky cause in trying to avoid him I wiped out and took him with me.

SUP is an awesome way to spend my free time. Getting more into racing as time goes on and that brings its own set of fun times I think.

I live in the Dead Sea Agnes Water, we get heaps of flack, some of it called for by disrespectful born again surfers or guys with no surf etiquette. i have worked out who the wingers are at my break they are all the snakes on mals who know there day has come,I normaly ride a shortboard, DW or Sup where no one else are. had a good one the other day as i was walking out of a quiet spot at home carrying my 9 5 , just got another spray from a deluded soul on the beach , halfway up the track a guy stopped me and asked if I was getting any waves then said that the Sup looked a lot of fun, it was Zane Harrison a true waterman he can accept them so that is good enough for me.Also i hear Bugs and Parko are doing a bit. Keep the Groove
