holding them in the surf is the key
As much as it breaks my heart to think that we will never see one of these world series races on Port Phillip (not-a) Bay, I have to agree, surf is the key. If the sport of SUP racing is to achieve mainstream popularity, it will be due to the unique appeal of powerful athletes standing up on a board and surfing while racing. It has speed, it has danger, it has the glamour of the surf culture, it has buff bodies, it has genuine sex appeal. It's a ready-made TV sport.
And frankly, I think BOP or battle of the paddle as a brand name attempting to cut through consumer consciousness comes up short. In fact, I think it blows chunks.
Ooooo, it's a battle. And ooooo, they have paddles. Boppity-bop, wackity-wack, right on the buttock. Another for me please, I've been awfully naughty!
Yes, that's sex appeal, but rather lame. Kind of like some kinky 60s British carry-on style titty romp.
