Distance race today was HOT and LONG haha,

So the race went down like this from where i was. As far as the Elite was the Men where on 14ft and Women on 12'6ft. You could still enter any class but the Elite had special board lengths this year and it seemed to work great.

Started fast and hard, felt great. The guys took off so fast and so did annabell, amazing.

The half way mark felt like it was taking forever to get to.

Close to the half way turning can for me i see Danny Ching already going back past towards finish, HOLY crap this guy had no one else even anywhere close to him. Amazing to see.

The next bunch of guys, i can see Jake, Beau and Jacko with the likes of Connor, kai, chase etc.. All paddling super hard.

The next group behind them i see Annabell!!!! I couldn't believe it and i think most of the boys around her couldn't believe either

I could still see Brandi and a few other of the top females in sight but i knew i wasn't gonna catch them.

Closer to the finish about 2km to go the Heat started to get to me and my arms blew up hahaha but i couldn't complain finishing 9th in Elite Girls.

In all Danny smashed it finishing minutes ahead before the next Elite male and Annabel did the same.

I do think they need to bring in some sort of drafting rule such as a female on a 12'6 shouldn't be allowed to draft guys on a 14ft, there was a fair bit of this happening today but you can't stop it i guess.

Good results by everyone from home.

There was a lot of talk leading up to the Battle to stamp out the drafting of guys and girls on smaller length boards wash riding the bigger length boards. Now drafting is part of just about every sport where numbers are in great quantity but it needs to be policed more, especially in SUP distance racing to pull back the advantage that a competitor will receive by drafting a faster, larger board.
Doesn't look like it was enforced!

if there are no drafting rules what's stopping a shorter board drafting the guy/lady on a shorter board drafting the guy on the longer board thus canceling out the advantage? Makes no sense to even try and police it.

On an equally popular note....Angie, how was the reception amongst Elite racers of using 14's in the Distance race, and could you see it extended to the Elite race as well? Would it not make it easier to just bring one 14' as opposed to a 12'6 and a 14'? Was it being discussed at all?
