Seems like some guys are getting out in the line up on their SUP's without leggies....what's the go, I would have thought it just common courtesy to have one.

I have seen people doing this at the alley they hire from down the river and paddle out to the surf. Thanks to this I got six stitches to the head a couple of months ago

We'll let you off on the incorrect use of punctuation if you allow some grace on the spelling.

I surfed yesterday for half of the surf without a leash, mine broke after about 4 waves and I was not ready to go in.

Nobody died and I didn't even take a swim. That's because it was knee high.

So - the surf was big enough to break a leggie BUT not big enough to wear one

Yep, it was a brand new leash that I took the packet off to use.

Problem was the packet and the leash were over 8 years old and had been sitting in my garage. The mouldings were brittle, it snapped with the slightest pull.

Besides you only need a leash if you never fall off. I obviously do though or I wouldn't have snapped a leash. I just stinkbugged every wave after my leash snapped.

Nup, C.L. But as I say more to do with age and degradation than product quality.

So are you saying that I am actually a quality individual - just suffering a little from age and degradation ?

Let's just say we all start out with potential, what we do with it depends on many things.

I am sure I'd be insulted if I was smart enough to figure that out gunna have to give you the benefit of the doubt and tell myself that it was your subtle way of telling me how much you admire me

As for legropes though - I have always used standard longboard 9ft leggies - usually O&E or Creatures and have never broken one. That maybe because I know my limits and that of my sups and it does nothing at all for my ego (or bank balance ) getting on seabreeze and bragging about how many leggies I break in a session. (and no chris thats not a shot at you at all but at - well you know the type )

My leash snapped last week, turned out to be an expensive exercise as the board washed up onto rocks in the wash and snapped 2 of my fins

Just thankful no one was on the inside and ate a 10'5 sized board as they were paddling back out.

Leashes are a must have with the size of the boards we ride I believe

should be a rule,no legrope,no go out!
If and when you fall off,its hard to hold both the paddle and board at the same time.

There are a lot more craft at the alley to worry about than a SUP without a leggy.

If you don't want to wear one then don't, just don't be surprised when you get a smack in the mouth after your board hits someone.

funny thing is, I always wear one when surfing my shorter sup, but if its 2 foot or under I usually paddle a 12.6 and dont......I need the swimming training anyway

No i used some thin rope through a hole drilled in my fin which nearly ripped your leg off when ever you fell, and that was only on a 7foot surf board, lets go back to those days ,with a sup and rope at least it will thin the crowd out with people injuring themselves

The first leggie I had was a black rubber tube with a chord inside. It would stretch so far and then fire back almost taking your head off. Those pintails and single fins were nice and pointy too

And the leggies were either a stud type or a hankie around the ankle, well thats all I had in the early years

And the rubber was like a surgical cord, snapped easy, great for swimming fitness and it makes me wonder today just how many people would actually be able to cope without a leggie?

IMHO, as for SUP, I never ever surf without one, just too dangerous for anyone else in the line up, while you might think its cool and good for you the fear factor when a sup board is coming at you is really scary...swap places with a bigger craft coming at you, it would be like a clubbie boat coming at you while you are on a sup
