Looks like the Round nose fish they are meant to be really good boards from what I hear.Ive got a V3 Rocket and its a great board

What model is that?

I know Steve's go to is a Puddle Jumper and he LOVES it, just ordered a shorter version... I hear nothing but great reports back from my SB mates who ride any of Matt's boards...

That said... Too short for a mid though

I had a Puddle Jumper and it was one of the worst boards I have owned and surfed. Very very limited in what it did. No drive and I had to nurse the turns as it had no hold(loose and no hold are not the same thing). Owned it for two weeks, surfed it eight times and made $50 when I sold it as I had bought it second hand. I have surfed lots of grovel boards and this one sucked for mine. Lucky they are popular and people love them - it only took two days to sell (remembering I have sold only three or four boards over the years).

Then I got a Yahoo Kelvinator - yewww!

Interesting, Steve's goes really well from watching him. Not my bag but Really helped him transition even shorter and knifier onto one of those switchblades... Which I could NEVER surf...

The Kelvinator is a totally different thing though, very similar to my old SubX which are great boards, super easy to surf and catch waves and have fun.

The back fin is up or the setup is clustered. Interesting
Have a go on it.

Tight cluster maybe to get it to turn in a shorter arc with that wide tail and straight rails line?

Blue is flat, going through green to yellow is concave, going through pink to red is convex.

what did you decide on the rails? TL knifey stuff or more volume?

let me know when your getting started and i'll try and sneak down, kids go back to school week after next so i'll have a bit more time then.

Yeah, Tri plane the whole way, soft up front harder and flatter at the tail. Between the triplane it's convex entry to Vee with double concave and flat out the back. It's been pretty much this with slight variations for me for quite a while now.
I'm not terribly sure how knifey my rails are, I know that when I feel up a board in a shop rack the rails usually feel full and bulbous, but I've never done any comparative measurements or anything like that.

Won't be getting started anytime soon, got to get some walls built and insulated before the cold comes. Sooo much to do. It's kind of a blessing in disguise really, I normally scratch out an outline, grab a tested rocker and hack at it without too much thought. This time I'm really considering all options and ideas, refining subtleties of curve, going back and forth. Thinking about the shape changes while up and riding my current boards, watching the water release off the tail as I trim along a wave, stuff like that. Feels good to be doing.

I had one too. As i generally like my boards to be 6 to 6.2 i found the tail was way to wide and big for me to sink or get in the water.
So it was silly over vol. In reality i should be on 5.4 pj or something for the right vol.

Its a trend that hard to get around if you still like some length in your boards.

Im getting sdr to make me a 6.2 nomad 32.5 litre vol without going to narrow.
It will be interesting

One of my mates has a SDR Nomad, he's a bloody good surfer and LOVES that board. I just finished doing some repairs on it and its really got some interesting stuff going on.

His is 6'4" and we did a swap the other day, i was able to go from my 7'7" Lizzy and surf it comfortably... Thing paddles really well for the size and gets in really early... Not my thing but thats because its designed as a step up for SB guys, you need to surf it and drive it like an SB... But if i was still an SB guy thats where i'd go... I rate it over the PJ for sure

and yeah, Tassie is fkn cold over the winter so make sure you get gloves/booties and super warm wettie as it also when the best waves are about... I'd do that before getting the house sorted
