How many people are actually interested in this side of wsurfing?

Do we wanna have speed days at places like the Mandurah Dragstrip, Safety Bay SandBar and Woodmans Point?

Or is it just 2 old speed junkies like Elmo Crutcheater and Hardie Softboy who r into this sorta stuff

Hardie I actually can't believe how many posts you do in a week! You must be very bored at work!
If you have so much gear and ready do lend us some (or rent if u wanna make profit) I'd be very interested to see how fast I can go!

There's a NNW forecast for Monday, so Monday arvo could be the go.

I can't tell you where publicly, or then I'll have to kill you

However, those of you that really want to know I will tell, I will email you all privately.

YoYo, tried to email you, not possible, there's a catfish with a tavern named after it, go there.

G'day Jullian,

Some spots down at the Mandurah estuary

Cobblers
End of Olive Rd Falcon (road next to the cobblers tavern) There is a grass rigging area here, you may have to walk out a bit as it can be shallow. A Strong northery works well here, the wind comes over the land and hits the water at Novara about 800m away and picks up speed again, the run back to shore generally gives you the best down winder, but it is recommended to check your depth before commiting to close to the shore. If you are feeling adventurous you can attempt to sail accross to the other side of the estuary (about 9kms away) warning though if it's squally the wind in the middle comes in hard and chop is sizable, the shoreline also looks the same.

Novara
Dampier ave, 2 areas Owen ave and Dorothy ave. Both better on westerly or easterly can also run on southerly. This spot can be a bit choppier.

Kiters
Norther side of the Dawesville cut, turn into unmarked rd (in UBD) just nth of Estuary pl. Can handle almost any wind direction good shallow (flat) areas, can sail across the astuary on a southerly -sw to other side and do runs accross the sand bar at Piont Grey. It's a bloody large sand bar which can generate some nice flat water for some good speeds, can be a bit of a lotery on depth, have been known to jybe with my fin dragging in the mud recommendation for sailing the sand bar is to stay at least 200 m away from the piont.
On the western side there is a lot of weed and it's not all that deep, weed fin recommended as the weed will clump around the fin, also be very carefull when standing we have an absolute Schidt load of cobblers and in summer Crabs, stepping on a cobbler is not a nice way to end your day, it's 24 hrs of pain which only heat can aleviate, not recommended for a long drive back to Perth.

There are other spots on the estuary and coast to sail but these are the main ones.

I believe there is a couple of nice spots on the swan as well for a northerly.

Unfortunately I'm stuck in the office tomorrow up in Perth

Hope this helps, look forward to catching up with you in the water

I can be contacted through this site for more info.

Ahh Tony Tony Tony

I am typing this slowly for your benifit.

Wait Awhile is correct, that's the Handicap system in action! We have to give the vics a chance, we have to give you all 2 hour headstart in winter and 3 hours in summer for when the Dr kicks in

Victoria

Inventers of the game Aussie Rules (football) a game started for people not skilled enough to play real football and not brave enough to play rugby The only game in the world where you get a piont for missing the goals it's alright guys it was a nice try anyway.

They made Victoria so small so as to give the smart ones a chance to escape without getting lost

Where they have to go to Sandy piont to sail along the shore to go fast as they can't handle chop or swim more than 5m.

WA is the abridged version (also allowing the Wait Awhile free kick for the Vics), so that we don't sound to conceited to those less privelaged than ourselves

West
Australia (a)
Very

WA, with more coastline than you can drive in a week
Where you can still find places to surf and sail without huge crowds.
In Wa we have everything of importance to the recreational lifestyle

What does Vic have besides Sandy piont

Eddie
Should feel sorry for you lot in reality.

Me old mate Hardie (a Vic Refugee) has been trying to talk me into doing a trip to SP as he recons it's poohot (from what I've seen rightly so) Now that I've endeared myself to The Vic sailing crew it may not be healthy for me (haven't got a thick enough wet suit anyway)

There you go I think I've painted a target big enough on me for a Vic to hit

Bring it on.

Stay cool, have fun in the water.

Yeh Victoria, sensational place!!!

It's so good for windsurfing I decided to move to Western Australia!!

I couldn't handle being so joyful all the time sailing in the cold oil slicks of Port Phillip Bay , Freezing my Cashews off, in that 18 degree celcius summer water temp, and 11 degree winter water temp, sailing those wonderful gusty storm conditions and those magnificent 10 to 15 knot seabreezes, geez I miss the place, I miss it so much, sometimes I kick myself up the arse for living 58 seconds drive from a great wavesailing spot and 3 minute drive from a great speedsailing spot, I think victorians are gonna wait a long while before they sail 6 days a week for six months of the year in 20 to 24 degree clean water with consistent steady seabreezes ranging fro 15 to 30 knots. You only have to wait till the globe warms up another 3 or 4 degrees and you'll be laughing, don't know what you'll do about the oil slicks and yarra water streaming into the bay, but if ya wait awhile technology might eventually help you clean it up. Yeh I'm gonna wait a while

Cheers brothers if ya wanna play with the big boys ya better be ready to cop it!!!!

Well well well.
three holes in the ground.

forgive me for getting the wrong impression, but from all the lamenting over there of no wind, I was thinking that WA actually means Whinge Alot.

Hardboy, you should get along well with Julien, He's a pom.
And a bay sailer.

And go ahead ridicule us for Having such a lame place to sail as Sandy Point.

The last time I was there I had such a lame time, doing a #k down the line session from the town to the inlet then hopping over to the inlet for a session there. I feel so incomplete.

Just bring on those GPS results.

There's a list on www.boards.co.uk to register your speed.

so get on the list, the challenge is out there.

extra benefit of putting the poms in their place.

G'day Tony,

Must be a bit slower today, took me a few reads to get the "three holes in the ground"

Already posting on GPS speed, just cracking 30 regularly, have gone faster but no data log just GPS reading.

The fanging along is good fun and practise for my technique (much needed) when there are no waves around.

Have a good one

thanx elms n hards, lookin out for the next nrthy

The shallower the better, nothing beats that feeling when you know your just about to hit the bank and pull off your first flat water forward catapult ....

Thats one of the good things about SP, Elmo. The sand bar shelves off big time, 2m from the side and you cant touch the bottom and you can get insane speeds on glassy h20 for about 2k's before you pull off the longest dreamiest carve gybe of your life BUT good luck tryin to nail a good day there, lost count of how many times I was sandy'dissa'pointed . But when it is firing you will sail till u can hang on no more, watch out for the school teacher he will always catch you up....

Tone,

Just givin ya a little bit of tease

Some of the best sails of my life have been at Sandy Point and Inverloch, will never forget them.

However, how many times did I pack the wsurf gear to go down that way and be disappointed Living here, you just have such consistent conditions that you are rarely disappointed, you can;t compare the 2 places. WA has that Maui feel about it, Vic never did for me anyway. Look forward to challenging you to some speed runs, In not ideal speed run conditions such as Sandy Point, Elmo and I are having 2 sec peak speeds of mid 30's in knots, so we'd only be faster at Sandy Point. I know how easy it is to post fast times there, I can garauntee you won't post as fast times over here.

Peace brother just muckin around about the other stuff!!

Hey you guys,

I always reakon I'm a great stirrer, and I was just thinking how easy it was.

then you just go and dash my ego, and not spit the dummy.

My top GPS of 34.8kts was at Sandy point in a gusty NWer, also achieved the same speed at Cairn Curran. Both in less than ideal conditions.
Both times in chop. Haven't been on the speed course with my GPS yet. should have but too lazy to stop and go get it.

I can remember a few times there with 30+ sailers, blasting in groups and threading the needle of groups coming the other way. Then all peeling off into 30kt carve gybes. And no weeds.

In both those runs the speed limiter was the point of becomeing airbourne.
Can't wait to get the speed blade and KA Koncept5.0 out.

Best place to post your speeds is on www.gps-speedsurfing.com/default.aspx because they have the biggest international database. You can search for speeds at a location to get a feel for what's possible and whats considered a good day.

Sandy Pt rips. Its got the best flat water I've sailed, with a great beach break which stretches for kms, and I'm heading over there for a month in about 6 weeks time. Driving over so I can fit all the toys. If anyone wants to come I have a spare seat.

Its easy to go fast there in a SWer.

For any of the speed boys looking for a run this morning the nth side of the cut on the mandurah estuary for the last 2 evenings has been looking a treat, it's been almost straight offshore there, but the area is still pretty flat, with the wind direction it's been running this equates to a run effectively parralel with he shore close to 1km long(may be longer) at about 50 to 100m out. The breeze has been quite consistant with some nice gusts of reasonable size to kick in the afterburners.

Unfortunately I've been subjected to abject work and can't utilise it.
