Thanks for that margo ,great speeds .I'm impressed . .it definitely sails like a smaller board ,looks like a nice sailing spot .

Isonic 111 has a 49cm tail.
Futura 111 had a 44 cm tail.
Also, Futura has much less area behind the cutout.
For downwind powered up, less area is faster.
For upwind and acceleration, MORE area is quicker.

Yes, that was I meant when I said "it is a slightly smaller board". The 2020 has smaller volume, thinner rails, more V, smaller tail ... kind of apple and oranges. Anyway, I think it is, at least for me, a moot issue. As I mentioned before I am not really willing to sail a board that size as it should (overpowered) ...

In 7 years with my JP Supersport, I have been passed a handful of times, maybe 3 times by Chenda Herstus, a former Kanaha Slalom Masters Champ.
Besides him, I can't think of any windsurfer...including dozens with sail numbers and logos, who can stay with me for any run.
From 1st day, I thought my '12 Supersport was clearly faster in top speed than my '10 Futura.
Currently have 84 JP Pro Slalom, 85 Naish Freeride, 95 Exocet Slider, 100 Tabou Speedster, 102 Fanatic Proto [2012], 109 Supersport, and 111 Isonic.

What fin are you using with your SS?

Remember, we are talking top speed, not acceleration.
With more weight comes slower acceleration....but more glide/momentum.
And for sure, "easier" is usually faster than "high strung".
Some slalom boards are easier...Tabou and Exocet.
Obviously, pilot skill is huge.
More skill can favor full slalom, while beginner shortboarder would do best with rec Freeide or widestyle.

Sure, for you in higher wind and possibly choppier water.
I've had Neil Sheltema boards since early '90's, used his production boards in the mid '90's. All great handling, better in higher wind choppy conditions than flat, artificial world conditions.
But I was just a lightweight rec sailor.
Possibly someone the size of Bjorn Dunkerbeck would want a much longer flat off the tail, thicker rails, lower overall rocker, and more volume back.
And a lightweight like Robbie would prefer thinner rails and tail, at least as long flat off the tail, narrower and thinner.
There is NO one fast universal board for everyone.
That's why all the options of shape, rockerline, width placement, weight, fitting placements and balance.

Of course, the ride is soon over. At 71, the end is near, especially for my weight.

Sounds like you need to unstick your SS.
Rear straps back and out, front to find your stance width, track to just un wet, boom height to allow adjustment in flight, lines to allow straightened arms, fin big enough to lift but not drag......
Dialed in, narrower board should be faster when well powered and wider board faster when holey or underpowered.
There are plenty of days my 85 liter Naish Freeride is faster than my SS or Isonic.

Yes free race can be faster. I've got Patrik slaloms 94, 110 and 128. All quick and comfortable for slaloms. Tried the F Race 100 last year and was blown away by its comfort and speed. Defn no slower that *board or others, in fact often faster because of ability to push harder without feeling edgy, bouncy or out of control. GYbing far less technical and smoother.

I've now got the new F Race 100 and 120. The 100 is awesome in 20+ knots with a 7.0 and 6.2. My board of choice. 120 I haven;'t got the best out of yet so still playing around with combos. Defn less bouncy than the slaloms, probably a bit too sedate for my liking ATM but it has shown glimpses of speed. I'm sure it will get there. The 100 though is a confirmed weapon and I would never choose a slalom board again in that size. Maybe in the larger sizes once I work out the 120....

hey wa881 ..i also have scored a 120 freerace ..it def has some good speed in it ..NEEDS a 42 fin i have found .for most days ..only had it for a month or so not had a good run of wind over this way ...

I'm in the throws of getting a 100 litre speed machine ..for 7,0 been tossing over 2021 100 patrik SLALOM ,a 110 slalom 2018 ,but since you mentioned it ,may consider the 100 freerace ....

I do have a 92 11 ,but being 95 kgs it is a sinker for me ..but a awesome high wind speedster .

how fast do you reckon you will get out of your 100 FREERACE .??

The Supersport was definitely stuck. I had everything all the way back. Maybe it doesn't like tiny weed fins. I have a mate coming over this year so might give it another run this year. Maybe even stick a rig on my 80s Wright Designs speed board.

I owned a 2019 F-race 100. Its a great board. As others have said, the speed is accessible because its easier to ride. I found it had a peak speed of just over 37 kts. This was in 25+kts and flat water. I've recently upgraded to a 2020 Fanatic Falcon 97. This board is a weapon. In the same conditions as the F-race I've done 38.5kts and there is definitely more to get.

Still waiting for my Futura 71, but I will never see those speeds we do not have 25 knots and flat water ... Regarding the slalom vs freerace in general I have no problem handling a smaller slalom board and so I am not sure i will go freerace, that is Futura again, for a smaller slalom. Given how great my Exocet 62 slalom works for me I am now very tempted to get the new version next year. If I can get it to the US 230 x 62 x 95L still takes me home with my 72 Kg and has proven a great size with 5.4-6.6 ... Isonic is also getting interesting: 225 x 63 x 93L, short should work a charm when turning a slalom board in swell.

Tough to tell just by looking, which new board is going to be fast AND easy handling.
We know we need around 40" flat from the tail. True slalom might have slightly less for top speed and always powered sails.
Fast freeride can have more, for easy speed, glide, speed with smaller sails.
Outline can include wider OFO for slalom, so narrower for FSPeed.....acceleration vs control and top end.
Rail tuck WP back should be softer on FSpeed, but I see most new slaloms are well tucked even to between the straps.
Thickness in tail goes both ways currently, so thought in progress.
Rear strap screw is well back now, around 6" min compared to my 1985 idea of 10-29". So front screw stays the same...wider stance favor the new bigger riders.
To hold a huge slalom sail needs mast track well forwards, maybe 23" from center of front straps. Fast freeride can go less, because smaller and sometimes rec sails are used...but never near freestyle setups.

But you can drive a detuned race car faster than you can drive a pro's car.

I think I read about a race where a professional (Guy Cribb) used a freeride board against other riders using slalom boards. Not sure who won but Cribb did prove on the day that his skill was the difference because even with the freeride board he was able to mix it with the guys with specialised gear. Moral of the story...if you want to go fast, improve your skills.

But Remery was using a self admitted too small weed fin, not the stock 36cm.
Need a pretty big weed fin to equal that much lift.

Stock fin for 100 SS is 36.
29, I doubt is a SSport fin.
