Move to WA then you won't need a 9.

Tardy, I started off with a new 2017 ncx 9.0 / JP superlightwind after moving from W.A into Qld's fickle SE Tradewinds, I am a shade over 100 kgs.
It was a disappointing sail for what I had intended, the NCX needed to be powered up to show its merit.
Its a great sail in a 7.0 and 20 kts but lacks stability and the low end grunt you'd expect from a 9.
Not to sure what sort of sailor would benefit from large no-cam sails, probably a feather weight on a formula or LT.

So anyway I bought a new 2019 loft sails racing blade 9.0m, ok its heavier and has a large luff pocket but the power it generates left me forgetting about carrying the thing to the water and unhauling it.

Never used an ACX but for me the cam/ no cam argument is a no brainer for bigger sails/fins and wider boards.

Yes, I have a 9 mt Koncept, stable and I can plan in 6-10 kts. Even the wing dings can't get going

Get a foil instead. After taking the plunge, my biggest fin sail I use is 7m

I got a 9.5 Cheetah (camless), does the trick when I don't want to foil. Way easier to uphaul than the 9.0 4cam HGO when the luff sleeve fills with water. It behaves pretty well overpowered at the max outhaul, as does the 8.0 Cheetah.

If I had a more slalomy board other than the Blast 145 I would consider a cammed sail, but for freeride, nah. I drop my fin kit a lot more than my foil kit because I spend so much more time on IQ. Don't want to fuss with cams for freeride and would rather just enjoy cruising.
I'm ~85kg so I dunno maybe you'll want more high end stability with 10 more kg.

Tardy, race sails work better with full on slalom boards. If you just want to cruise with some speed in light winds a freerace sail will be your sail.

Never understood why people buy sails over 7.5. They're heavy, bulky, take up heaps of space, you need to buy yacht masts & long booms. All awkward highly over rated gibberish, crock of .... & try deep water starting these bastards in light winds- you can't.

Pain in the rear end & your pocket.

Why bother going out unless the wind cranx up to at least 18+ knots.

Save your $'s & wait for higher winds...Simples!

We get months of 5 - 15kts. If I waited for 18kts I'd hardly get out.
And no don't suggest a foil thanks.Im enjoying a fin and get going in 10 - 12kts if it's reasonably consistent.

a bit shallow where i sail ..but yeah foiling is light wind magic for windsurfing now a days ..
I'm stuck with a fin ,and still trash one or two every year .

What size fin do you use? G10 or carbon? A carbon @ 500 might transform the board in light wind. I use 44&46 on my Patrik SL140

All relevant to each individual, where they live, how long they've been w/s & the skills level.

Where we live 18-30 knots very common. Go Gippsland Victoria! wouldn't want to live anywhere else.

Been sailing since late 70's, think l know a thing or 2 by now.

As for sitting on the beach gettn' the "SADZ" Forget it! Got better things to do than wastin' time.
(gavnwend & IMAX 1) less than 18knots time to pack it in for the day & head home. Better things to do than arse plant the sand!

Hi red rabbit ,if we only had wind here like that more often ,been to maui a couple of times and they would laugh at you if you had a 6,5 even ..also lived in west oz where 5,0 & 6.0 was your main sail ...but light wind sailing can be cool too .and ya just gotta make use of what ya got ..cold air def has more punch than hot ..and merry christmas .

Hey tardy, l know what board & sails you use, why not try different fins they can make a huge difference.a 48 you mention could work, l use that size always on my bigger gear. Goodluck PS lm your size & weight.

but I am pretty sure ..its jus lack of wind .. and I'm getting more wind greedy ...I have been rigging a lot bigger now that I'm thinking I'm a GPS wanna be .back in 2004 Use to own a 9,6 north warp .now rotten ...was one heavy mother ..but seemed to plane in nothing ,really hard to find sails at the mo ,so thinking of ordering something .

^^^ Totally agree - but

cam sails are less powerful for size. So for a wavesailor / B&J'er who wants just one big sail (likeme 4.0 to 6 in wave gear, and a 7m just for the FSW on **** days) getting a cammed sail is no good, needs too much wind.

The Gator is a godsend as it feels like a wavesail and a 7m Gator does pull at bottom end "about 1m more " then a 6m sail. If I got a 7M cam sail I would not get going. (Took too many years to figure this out)
