Thanks yep might get a cheap phone for water feed back for all results not just speed that the GT31 gives.
looking at old forums is the Alcatel Zume 5 still best to get or what do you recommend.

I bought a couple of Alcatel phones recently from Coles for about $20 each. They work fine but you may need to use the older version of GPS-Logit as the latest version on the website says it only works with Android 8 and up. PM me if you need help.

Coles seems to have cheap phone deals very few weeks. Just watch their catalogue.

Hi Julien,
just asking the question here as it may negate you receiving many emails with the same question...
any appropriate idea of when the ordered data loggers will be finished and shipped?
No pressure, just wondering. Cheers, Mikey

It's the big week. Well, next week mostly. Got antennas a few days ago, batteries and charging pads today, shell samples tomorrow, straps tomorrow, buttons mid-next-week, PCBs end-next-week, shells bulk the week after. I'll know tomorrow if "things fit", I'll know next week if the new buttons are better.

What happens when the Motion is no longer in motion.?
If no longer available for any reason.
Warranty issues down the track.?
We have warranty issues with previous devices.
I certainly dont mean to put down the Motion or Julien but have seen well intentioned business plans not come to fruition due to many unforeseen circumstances.
I hope that never happens.
What is the next readily available, affordable, reliable device available as a choice or backup that suits the GPST.?
Cheers.

It's an interesting and important topic but I will reply to it once things are clear about the new LCD version. Right now it would just be guesswork.

This is a cross your fingers and hope scenario.
But the logger shouldn't have the same problems as the motion, not having a display.

Hi Julien, hopefully by now you have got all the 'bits n pieces' for the loggers ... how's it all fitting together?
Everyone's fingers are crossed here. Mikey

Hello, yes I received the last parcels for the small one yesterday. Still two parcels to go for the bigger one. It all fits and per-component tests of the light one seem fine. I'll confirm in two days or so. Took a quick bad pic so you can see the new shells, new protruding buttons, the LED, the straps. I'll do better pics when I'm done.

Ok, I'll ask the stupid question. I assume our simple logger is the small one?

Yep looks good. Although I don't see much point in wearing the no display model on your wrist, it would be safer and get better reception in a dry pack on your upper arm.

Agreed, the wrist isn't a good place.

Good point, Andy. Does it need a "dry pack"? I was hoping to just jam it in the front of my vest.

The Motions are completely sealed. They do not need a waterproof bag.

Wearing any GPS in the front of your vest is a very bad idea.

I'm going to put mine on the tip-top of the mast. That way when I catapult I'll get a great max speed.

Hey Daffy, what's the reasoning behind not wearing a GPS in the front of your vest? Is it reception issues, danger in the event of a crash? What about in the mesh-like outer pocket of a NP buoyancy vest?

Cheers...Eckers

Yep, reception, the body shields the sats behind you. If the reception is good you can just about get away with it in a straight line, but a change of direction or a lean into a gybe, will change the skyview. It can take the gps a while to readjust to the different sats, and leaning into a gybe can also get reflections off the water. Plus being inside any absorbent material will kill the signal if it gets wet.

Hello, some news : battery life is within expectations, everything fits. Now, while searching for power optimizations, I think I stumbled upon a definitive solution to avoid the rare point loss at full rate. It's been running for five days now without a loss. Sadly, it requires a new PCB spin. I already had two less-important bodges to correct too. This should have been solved by this Friday but the PCB factory (and DHL ?) have lengthened the Chinese New Year holidays to February 10th due to the recent crisis. The 10th is fine in the grand scheme of things but I fear it will be extended again. We'll see. I have done the usual tour of non-Chinese PCB suppliers and at this point, it isn't an option. I use thin RF PCBs and the price difference is 10x or above. All in all, I'll keep you updated about this. The zero-points-loss is a big deal to me as I've been searching a solution for years now. And surprisingly, the battery supplier in the same region resumed processing after CNY as planned so there's hope.

Well, another 2 weeks gone and I am sure Julian is probably getting very frustrated trying to get the parts for the loggers. ...damn you virus!!!

Yeah, I should have ordered PCBs in Germany earlier but I had the other orders paid for already, twice, and manufacturers were quite adamant that production was resuming. In the end, production of the type of PCBs I need is still completely on hold.

All in all, I spent whatever margin was left on the loggers to order in Germany and shave a month or so.

Some news :
- small Motion production starts Tuesday,
- normal Motion production restarts March 3rd,
- both will now have a "battery charging" signal even when off, as it was a regular request,
- firmware updates and the likes are on hold as I had/have to work elsewhere in the meantime to earn money.

Small Motion straps are black, royal blue, dark red or dutch orange. Teams are welcome to send their preference.

I received the boards Thursday, confirmed one during the weekend, started a batch yesterday. Sneak peek of the new web interface with sorting, searching and batching (you can select 10 logs and tag them all as "Lake George" in one operation).

Searching sessions in "La Palme", 2 of 83 sessions, selecting them to Download them both in one click :

Single session view to have a quick look at the top five, top five average (and more to come like runs on a map, I need to unearth an old website of mine) :
