you only need 2 kites in your quiver.... if you dont want to do anything but go downwind??
it says 8 - 10 kts sweet spot range..... so if you bought two kites to cover 40 kt range.... you would be going downwind and overpowered at the other end????
so you really need 4 kites for four 10 kt sweet spots.....
$4000 american dollars....
and i thought that carbon / Kevlar was the most non stretch sail cloth known to man vice cuben cloth, whatever that is....
I'm sure their foil is the most aerodynamic kite ever made too....they must have researched every other companies kites to make that sort of claim.... and i wonder what the garantee is that it's the best kite I'll EVER fly.......

Could't resist haveing a look after hearing bout the 20 kt range... but then when you see other bits of false advertising......... i dunno... really how good is it, i guess well see in a couple months.

Prices dont seem to add up to "about the same as other brands" either
Perhaps there is an add on somewhere in there for the chroming
Wonder if we are going to see kiters worldwide with heads stuck in their kite bags
"kiteing will never be the same again"

Ok so a standard kite has a 3-4 knot sweet spot if your lucky. So you then you would need 10 kites with a 4 knot sweet spot to cover 40 knots.
Hmmm i ride up to 30 knots with 3 kites. Your not making sense ?

You can always earn yourself a free 100 bucks US by giving it a try. That's what they'll give you if you don't agree with the performance/quality claims and return the kite. They're very sure of the Hellfish to offer such conditions. And from personal past experience I can assure you they stand by their warranty 100%.

its all hype i reckon.

In fact hats off to best for an amazing marketing thingo.
just had a look at kiteforum, and there evreyone is raving about the new hell fish and everyone wants one now.

Its funny people are dying to get this kite and will part with 1000 odd US dollars to get one, via mail order yet no-one knows how it performs, have test driven it or even knows what it Looks like in real life.

I assumed since you said " a twenty knot wind range, you will only need two kites" ... you meant one kite for 0 - 20kts, and one kite for 20-40 kts...
that is two twenty knot wind ranges.... but it's all crap and product talk up anyway.. the kite won't pull exactly the same ammount for a 10 kt wind range anyhow.. it is "impossible" without changing the flying characteristics of the kite ... so when you say or quote their claim of saying "most normal kites " have a 3 kt sweet spot ie they pull the same ammount and handle the same roughly ... they do.. and I'll eat my bar if you try and tell me that the hellfish can handle a 70% wind strenghth increase, without making any more power ( non sweatspot), or without you having to move the kite more or less to get the power out of it over the ten knot range. Which is what you would do with the rest of the normal kites

everyone i know that rides last years' model kites has 3 kites to cover 0 - 30 kts.. so i guess then that everyone allready uses " 10 kt" sweat spot kites anyhow

and I guess the only people who bother ordering the hellfish... must want the kite a lot to have to fork out the $1500ish AUS to get it shipped out given that it's half manufactured with the single most expensive sail cloth in history to date, so why would they send it back.... Good way to make money though if you " love the one you own" and want to try out a hellfish

I think that Best are doing some BIG Claiming and their story is a bit all over the place, but I think I'll wait to see in the flesh before making a judgement.

Don't fancy eating my bar, not even on the BBQ with a marinade.

Is this the "lets advertise best forum" or what.

I would be interested to know just exactly how much people end up paying compared to the internet prices.

$100 credit so what, you don't like it so you have to buy another to get your credit min $500 to spend, more than covers guarantee I think.

every best around here over 3 months old has a repair, even my 3 yr old wipika school kites are in better condition.

The first chance I have to compare wind range with my airblast 10, I will find out.

a quote from the bottom of wind range chart

Actual wind ranges will vary slightly depending on rider ability.

so in reality a lot of you guys will actually only need 1 kite

the yanks are fantastic for good glossy marketing

but seriously, it's interesting how they are venturing into different materials (which if you wanted to you could probably try and suss out with a local sail maker) and modifying the design

in reality, wait for it to lob onshore take it for a test drive and see for yourself to sort out the bullshirt from fact.

you never know this may be the start of the exponential leap in kite sail technology which you guys are waiting for (or it may not)

windsurfing went through huge changes with sail and board design, it's only to be expected that kiting will have a similar jump

Rumours are that the next year / season should be interesting for the kiting crew

So keep an open mind beware the hype and salesmanship do your research test drive and then make an informed decision.

see ya on the water

i agree love or hate best they are shaking up the kiting industry and moving ahead with new designs.
Maybe this will give the big brands a kick up the arse that they need
2006 season looks to be interesting on the design/innovation front or is it really just hype??
