I build and repair boards. I put extra inserts in to boards often.

I meant that most inserts are the traditional 1” spacing Chinook style. I can source those 1/2” spacing ones that are only used by a couple of manufacturers (to assist in making it look like factory install, when putting them in aftermarket install)
if that makes sense

^^^ yes that’s the truth. But not what the paper implied with headline and first couple of paragraphs
FFS it was one bird on the beach that is 50km from nearest town or agriculture.
and the headline was WA HOME OF DEADLY OUTBREAK and ‘patient zero’ with a byline of ‘ bird flu season - Australia’s first suspected case of deadly H5 strain’. What utter claptrap. Old people all stressing themselves there’s a new thing that’s gonna kill ppl.

I gather seabird toilet paper is already in short supply.

Yet the mouse plague that could decimate our agriculture is hardly news. Depends what the media push. The headline in the paper here was all about bird flu threat and implies Covid-like threat to humans cos they love to stir everyone up.

I have thoughts. But one post and user name digi growth.
I’d wanna be assured of your non marketing related (bs?) intentions in asking this

drop into MOzCustoms and chat about which boards are good cos I see inside all of them.

It’s the version without the wood construction in it. How could this have happened, does anybody have an idea?

What model is it
some are just glass over foam bottom and that’s the same as SUP. They don’t handle hard use.

i would not be using it. The crack only needs a tiny bit of a hole that allows water in to the core and you then have a worthless board. Plus I cannot stress enough how much this board is going to snap any minute if you are planing in chop.

Pretty sure that JP won’t be sandwich. It’s not a beginner type repair and it’s very close to snapping so do it right. As Decrepit’s said, it is a buckling not just crack

I’d do a big diamond at least about 300mm of bottom length, and up rails. I bet when you sand rails there is a crack under the paint.

if it’s wood bottom though, it’s really gonna be a vacuum bag job. Without bending it. That’s hard. So if you have a pro repairer who builds sandwich boards (not just a surf dude) near you go see them.

Awesome resource.

but a suggestion- too much scrolling. If I look at a brand and scroll to the model, it says “2 models”(which really should say sizes)……but that needs to be a dropdown list to select the size.
otherwise I click on the brand, scroll and select model but have to scrollll alllll the way to the bottom to select the 1000 or 1200 wing. Then scroll all the way to top to select next brand. Imagine how it’s going to get worse with more n more models coming out.

then - and really not important but it would be nice to see a compatiblity chart for mixing n matching brands. There prob is one and I haven’t searched for it but if it were on your site too it might help folks who have to use old crap. We were all beginners or poor (or both) at some stage and wanted to cobble together something usable.

anyway good work it’s taken u some time I bet

An i see broken foil tracks almost every week...

only as the manufacturers use rubbish longboard boxes and-or crappy install. Done right it’s a strong as DT and similar weight. Using surf boxes and the ridiculous Gorilla glue installs that surfers did a decade ago (that unfortunately a lot of folks still follow) is just asking to fail.

companies like DT as it’s a more simple install to get done by Asian factories.
Combined with a box that’s really easy to mould in big quantities at Cobra.
With most racey foils being DT that’s why it’s prevailed.

people come to me all the time to get tracks put in for adjustability and love the result. Seems a lot of folks want adjustability. I’ll be keen to see if the adjustable Tuttle is strong enough but with Slingshot pulling out of Oz I dunno if we will see much

^^^ I agree with a lot of that.

I suspect it to be a Gorge-oriented decision perhaps as all the wingers here in Oz use plate systems. There’s about 1-5% at a guess who use a Tuttle mast as they’re racing. So whilst slingshot might think a board that suits Mike’s and chewy foil systems are just great I really dunno about the rest of the world thinking that. They want plate n tracks.

more windsurfers than wingers use Tuttle as it’s used for IQ and slalom …. but there’s still as much or more on plate n tracks. But slingshot pulled out of windsurf so why would they care.

seems to me they’re just smashing out ideas and videos as the winger market is saturated and they want something different every 6-12mths. Reinvented the wheel in the process.

I don’t think any of those questions are relevant man. Soft under heel then progressing to rail crack is major structural and needs major repair. If water got in, board just sits longer between steps

Thats the advantage to proper repair by removing sandwich over say a 20-30cm area. It’s gonna dry right with that much core exposed - or u find it’s not wet. Yay
I have seen too many fails with single pack PU like gorilla glue. It needs moisture to cure so in a big hole there is often uncured PU. As soon as a crack lets moisture in or the board gets hot, the uncured liquid starts to foam and you blow the board.

So I say do it right. Or, if the board is so crappy then a dodgy repair is called for- only in small areas and use 2 part PU

Sorry but there’s no way you can jump down from 145 to something for wave use.

get a 120 freeride and once you can get around fine on that (planing) then try a 100L FSW in good winds. Then you can try small waves once planing and gibing well on the FSW

And the chances of that happening are close to zilch.

It was close. Google said they’d hit pause if others did but only days later they had changed their mind. That reeks of rich carrnt shareholders influence.

can’t be too hard to get the big 3-5 companies in a room to chat about it.

trouble is it’s all money and they don’t care how risky it is. Canadian govt dude in charge of all their tech stuff calls it an existential threat. But geeks say look how cool my code is and rich carrnts just say look how rich we are getting.

Normal folks embracing it cos they can cheat at work or make a cool video but ignoring the existential threat. God humans are dumb.

And now Anthropic saying (3 days ago) we should hit pause on AI development as it might get out of control in bad ways.
This is the third time a major company has said it. But they don’t stop due to commercial interests. Now when big companies saw big money in the internet it went oh so well didn’t it …?

we need to turn the sh1t off and have a big think for a while.

Agree with Decrepit’s post. Minimum would be removal of whole pad, inject proper 2 part expanding foam and lots of glass over (incl around rail after sanding the laminate down to the pvc foam.). That’s a big one for first timers.
Still might only give you a season.

proper repair would be router out whole area, replace sandwich layer and reglass.

Not bring rude I hope, but this is the kind of DIY you go after a few nose jobs and little holes - it’s a lot.

just sealing it will do nothing. The bottom is now taking 90% of the load when it should be the rail doing that. This board will crease or snap of just sealed up then used.

Odd, I get that now and again, and am looking to isolate. It's actually coming from CloudFlare who are our edge caching provider (power 20% of the internet) .. is it still happening for you?

Now all good.
